Is the 2021 Ford F-150 Limited Worth $12,000 Over the F-150 Platinum?
The Ford F-150 is legendary in the truck world. Countless attempts to overthrow it by competitors have been tried and failed. Now that the 2021 model is here, it’s clear that it’s more than worthy of all the hype surrounding it, and the Platinum and Limited trims have a lot to do with that.
One thing is very obvious, however, and that’s the fact that both are very pricey. While both have some amazing features, each costs more than most can afford. The Limited trim is the most expensive of all, however, and many may wonder if it’s actually worth the price.
The 2021 Ford F-150 is worthy of its legacy
The 2021 F-150 has a lot to offer, no matter which trim level you’re looking at. The XL, which is the lowest trim level available, has more standard features than ever before. For a mere $28,940, new owners will get the SYNC 3 infotainment system, an emergency braking system, and a tailgate that will double as a work surface.
The price obviously goes up from there, especially when it comes to the higher trim levels. There is plenty to tempt potential buyers into investing more money, like a hybrid engine and better interiors.
The XLT, which is just above the XL, starts at $35,050. The Lariat costs $44,695, the King Ranch $56,330, the Platinum $59,110, and the Limited $70,825. While each trim level is more tempting than the last, whether the extra features are worth the price hike is questionable.
The Platinum has all the bells and whistles
Winter days won’t have the bite they used to thanks to heated steering wheels and seats, both front and rear, according to Ford. There’s also a wide range of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, intersection assist, front parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition. While that’s very nice, the massaging seats is where the real spoiling begins.
A SuperCrew cab is available, but there are some strings attached. It can only be connected to either a short or standard bed. The ride is a rather tall one, as it comes with 20-inch wheels.
This won’t be too much of an issue, however, as the Platinum comes with power-deployable running boards that make getting in and out easier than ever.
The Limited brings a whole new level of luxury
The Limited has all the features that the Platinum trim does, and adds to it. It comes standard with a 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 Engine, but the hybrid engine is optional.
The wheels are even larger than on the Platinum. They’re 22-inches on the Limited, as opposed to only 20-inches on the Platinum.
A lot of the features that are only optional on the Platinum, like the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Trailer Reverse Guidance, and the Active Park Assist 2.0 come standard on the Limited.
Is the Limited really better than the Platinum?
For the price, the Platinum is the best buy. Many of the things that make the Limited so great are available as an option, and buyers can easily pick and choose what they want. While the Limited is definitely a great truck, it’s not so great that the massive price hike is worth it.
