Subaru is having a good year for crossover models. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is a hatchback crossover SUV with a few trim levels, but which one is right for you? The Premium, Sport, Limited, and Hybrid models vary in price from $22,000 to $35,000.

Each model has tons of cargo space and an adventure-ready interior. According to Subaru, the Crosstrek is going up against the 2020 Honda HR-V, the 2020 Hyundai Kona, and the 2020 Jeep Compass. Those are solid choices, but the Crosstrek might be the more reliable choice on the 2021 market.

What is the Subaru Crosstrek Premium trim?

The Crosstrek Premium trim has a few options, but even the base model comes with standard all-wheel-drive. The base trim starts at $22,245 and gets 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 28 in the city.

The premium crossover starts at $23,295 and also gets 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 28 in the city. It also gets 8.7 inches of ground clearance (like the base model), making it perfect for occasional dirt adventure.

According to MotorTrend, the Premium offers automatic headlights, upgraded foglights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, and an upgraded leather steering wheel.

The Crosstrek Sport trim gets 182 hp

The Subaru Crosstrek gets a 2.5L flat-four with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. The CVT transmission has paddle shifters with eight gears. This one starts at $26,495 and gets 34 miles per gallon on the highway and 27 in the city.

Inside, the eight-inch touchscreen is an option, and the StarTex upholstery repels water. It has X-MODE and Hill Descent Control for those off-roading days.

X-mode allows the Crosstrek to traverse different terrains with different modes. These include normal, sand/mud, and snow/ice. This, and yellow stitching on the inside, are exclusive to the Sport trim. Some of the new color options include Plasma Yellow Pearl and Horizon Blue Pearl.

Limited and Hybrid models

The Crosstrek comes in a few more trims, including the Limited and Hybrid models. The Limited starts at $27,995 and has the same 2.5L 182 hp engine.

It comes with keyless access and push-button start and an eight-inch Starlink multimedia system. It also comes with blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Hybrid starts at $35,345 and gets 90 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent). Subaru clarifies that it is 480 miles of total vehicle range through Subaru’s StarDrive Technology.

“Simply drive how you want, and this advanced system automatically optimizes power, torque, and fuel efficiency to deliver not only improved acceleration but up to 90 MPGe.”

The Crosstrek Hybrid received a high safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This applies to driver-side and passenger-side. It also covered roof strength and head restraint safety ratings.

Depending on your budget, and of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek models would be a good fit. And a safe pick, at that!
