Is the 2022 Acura MDX Worth the Major Price Increase?
The 2022 Acura MDX is out and about flaunting its significant upgrades, despite not being available for sale until early next year. This gives you enough time to really consider if the new Acura MDX is worth the major price increase.

Remember, the Acura MDX is a luxury three-row SUV, so its high price shouldn’t be that shocking. According to Cars.com, the 2022 model will begin at $47,925. This is for the base model with front-wheel drive. The 2020 Acura MDX started around $45,525. Also, AWD versions now begin around $49,925 compared to $47,525 with last year’s models.
While this is a pretty hefty price increase, the MDX is still priced significantly lower than luxury 3-row SUV rivals. For example, the BMW X5 begins at around $59,400, and the Audi Q7 has an MSRP of about $54,950.
2022 MDX Performance
But what’s new for the 2022 Acura MDX? Luckily, a lot. Including a new platform. According to Kelly Blue Book, the MDX now has a double-wishbone front suspension to improve its handling, and it also now has Brembo performance brakes.
While the standard wheels are 19-inches, you can upgrade to 21-inch wheels. The wheelbase is now 3-inches longer too. Plus, it’s now lower to the ground and wider than before. Perhaps this will provide a sportier ride.
With the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine, you get 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. This is a substantial amount of power. Also, the engine is paired with the same automatic 10-speed transmission.
The 2022 Acura MDX Type S will be the most powerful MDX ever with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that pumps out 355 hp. Plus, the Type S will come with standard AWD. The Type S will join the lineup a little later.
If you add the A-Spec package, you get standard all-wheel drive and a 5,000 lb towing capacity. Surprisingly, the MDX is more capable than expected. The Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) will keep you in control of slippery situations.
2022 MDX features
Alone with a new face and bold exterior styling, the Acura MDX got an incredible interior refresh too. There is now more headroom in the third row and an additional 2.4-inches of legroom. The cargo area got 1.5 cubic feet larger and now offers more underfloor storage.
Premium materials like open-pore wood and Milano leather provide a luxurious feel. Also, there are twin 12.3-inch digital displays. You can control the infotainment center with a touchpad control as well.
Convenience features include massaging seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, tri-zone climate control, 12-way power heated front seats with lumbar support, keyless entry, a power liftgate, an acoustic laminated windshield, and much more.
You also get the AcuraWatch group of standard safety features that includes forward-collision warning, collision-mitigation braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assistant, blind-spot information system, rear cross-traffic monitor, and traffic-sign recognition.
So, yes, the 2022 Acura MDX is worth the price increase. Not only is the 3-row SUV larger, but it will have better handling and a smooth ride. The interior is more luxurious, the tech is more advanced, plus you get a long list of standard features.
