Is the Audi A7 The Ultimate Daily Driver?
When it comes to daily driving a car, there is a lot you want out of it. You want space, practicality and sometimes you even want something a little sporty. The Audi A7 has all of this to offer and more, and the market for used ones can drop as low as $25,000 for ones in good condition.
Performance and Handling
The supercharged 6 cylinder of the A7 makes this heavy car deceptively fast. The luxury suspension and stiff steering adjust with the press of a button, and the sport and comfort modes pair with a custom mode that allows you to pick all of your favorite settings for one ultimate driving experience.
The car has enough power to make you forget that you are driving a big, four-door sports coupe, but the Audi suspension system means that the ride is smooth and luxurious.
Styling and Features
Older, affordable generations of the A7, such as 2012 to newer, have both a sleek and aggressive style that elevates them above a normal sedan. The Audi Sportback forms the body lines of this car into one extended coupe and follows the trunk all the way down to a sporty little spoiler that lifts up and down. The A7 has LED headlights and taillights that are both iconically Audi and still very specific to the A7 models. Newer years switch to a more futuristic styling of rear taillight that wraps around the rear end as one thin bar.
The interior of the car has rich leather seats with adjustable controls and lumbar support, and some models offer heated and ventilated seats. Both the driver and passenger, along with the back seats, enjoy dual climate control for added personal comfort. The car is offered as a 4 seater, with a slim center console and drop-down armrest in the back seat, or as a full 5 seater.
The dashboard wraps around a large leather steering wheel affixed to an aesthetic gauge cluster. A pop-up infotainment system raises when the car turns on, giving it that extra ‘wow’ factor. Sitting underneath the infotainment system is the climate control system, which allows the driver to individually adjust their settings or to sync the settings of all of the systems. The Start-Stop button lies comfortably beside the gear shifter and next to the infotainment control nob and buttons, which are conveniently placed where you would typically rest your hand on an armrest.
Space and Functionality
The Audi A7 offers as much space and practicality as it does sport and luxury. The back seats can fit 2 full-sized car seats – and the trunk is big enough to store them both. The front seats are incredibly spacious and can comfortably accommodate tall owners and passengers. The back seats are tall enough to comfortably fit as many adults as you have seat belts.
The A7 is also the ultimate grocery-getter car. The car’s coupe-like design allows the trunk to extend further back to allow for an impressive amount of cargo space, and with the rear seats folded down you would be set to fit more in your trunk than you will probably ever need to – but it’s still cool to know you can.
If you’re looking to get a little bit more out of your daily driver without breaking the bank, older generations of the Audi A7 are my go-to choice. While sometimes it’s fun to drive impractical sports cars, the A7 still provides a fast ride with all of the quirks and features you need on your daily journey.
