Is The Audi E-Tron Worth Its Outrageous Price?
Audi decided to get in the electric vehicle game with the sporty Audi e-tron. This electric SUV was built to compete with luxury models such as the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla X; however, is it worth the price? If you wait a little longer, you can save with electric Jeep models later this year. So, what exactly makes the e-tron worth paying so much more?
What Comes With The Expensive Audi E-Tron?
Hold on to your wallet because the Audi e-tron begins around $75k and only climbs in price with higher trim options. Some consumers say that the e-tron should have a better look for that high price, but it’s dated look will have to do for now.
The e-tron has a 95.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to power two electric motors. One is located at the front axle, and the other is on the rear. This set up produces 355 horsepower and 414 lb-ft of torque. That’s a lot of power. Plus, the e-tron can tow up to 4,000 lb.
However, one drawback is the e-tron’s limited range. It can only go up to 204 miles on a single charge. The Nissan Leaf, a much cheaper option, can go up to 234 miles on a single charge, but certainly lacks in power and towing compacity.
The e-tron is one of the faster electric vehicles with the ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. The Mustang Mach-E can go 0 to 60 mph in only 3 seconds, but it’s a car, not an SUV.
Another impressive feature is how quickly the Audi e-tron charges. You can charge it at home with a 240 volt/50 amp outlet in 9 hours. You can also gain the ability to go 54 miles in only 10 minutes with a DC fast charger.
But to set Audi ahead of the game, they work with Arcadia for renewable energy technology and allow solar and wind equipment at your home.
While the Audi’s limited range makes it seem more suited for driving around the city, it is incredibly cable for off-roading. It’s all-wheel-drive with an air suspension that has five modes, including one for off-roading.
Audi E-Tron Features
The Audi e-tron has a smooth, comfortable, quiet ride that’s expected of a luxury vehicle, along with premium padded leather seats. There is more than enough space for five passengers that also get to enjoy features like the heated back seat.
However, the cargo space is slightly lower than average. Behind the rear seats, you can access up to 28.5 cubic feet of cargo space, and with the seats folded down, you have up to 57 cubic feet of cargo space.
The virtual cockpit is ahead of its time with a 10” infotainment center with a wireless smartphone display to connect to your favorite apps. You can connect to Apple Car Play or Android Auto too.
Download the myAudi app on your phone to personalize your trip. You can lock the doors, schedule maintenance, plan your route, and more with just a few taps on your phone.
Plus, the Audi e-tron is incredibly safe. It earned an IIHS top safety awards and got five stars from the NHTSA, making it the most reliable electric vehicle so far.
This, along with incredible attention to detail with features such as warmed wipers and climate control, does seem to make the Audi e-tron worth the luxurious price. It’s an advanced SUV with power and features that other electric vehicles don’t even come close to offering.
