The Rivian R1T is a fully electric truck that will hit the market later in 2020. We certainly hope that this brand new truck stays of on track, but the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak could cause some delays.

However, in the meantime, we can go over what we know about the electric truck. This will help determine if it’s worth waiting for or not.

How Capable Is The Rivian R1T?

As to be expected, this fully electric truck will be expensive. Its price is predicted to start around $69k for the base model. Higher trim options will quickly raise the price to over $80k.

These prices will place this electric truck up there with luxury SUVs and trucks like the Audi Q8 and Range Rover models.

The top of the range 180 kWh model will be the first option available, which is the most expensive and most capable option. Later in the year, the 105 kWh model will be available. This option is the base model.

Rivian R1T electric Truck Power

Similar to the Telsa X, the R1T truck will an electric motor on each axle. These four motors will give the truck its all-wheel-drive power.

The 135 kHw option is the most powerful and fastest model. It is claiming to produce 765 horsepower, 829 ft-lb of torque, and the ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in only three seconds.

This amount of speed puts the R1T on par with the Mustang Mach-E, which is a sports car, not a truck. So, it’s needless to say that this amount of pickup is awe-inspiring.

The Rivian R1T also boasts about its ability to tow up to 11,000 pounds. That’s an insane amount of weight.

We usually brag about the 2020 Toyota Tacoma’s ability to tow 6,800 lb as a midsized truck, but now that number feels silly in comparison.

Rivian R1T Off-Roading Capabilities

This compact truck might actually be a tank. With its 400-mile range, it can go anywhere, literally. It can even wade through water up to three feet deep, whereas Jeeps usually only wade in depts of 19” deep.

It has a 34-degree approach angle, 25.7-degree break-over angle, and 30.5-degree departure angle, meaning it can crawl over any obstacle in its path. This truck also has a ground clearance level of 14.5”, allowing it to clear anything blocking the road.

The truck bed is also perfect for camping. You can place a tent on the back and use three 110 volt outlets to charge your gear. It also provides compressed air to pump up air mattresses and floats.

Plus, the lockable gearbox on the outside of the truck is conveniently hidden to the naked eye. Use it to access and lock up your valuable gear easily.

The crossbar system also allows you to place your gear on the roof, on top of the truck bed, or in the truck bed to maximize storage space.

We didn’t even get into the luxury and advanced features that the Rivian R1T has to offer. It’s already blown us away. We have to say, yes, this truck is more than worth the wait.
