The Buick Encore is a compact SUV designed to compete with other smaller options such as the Ford Edge and Nissan Kicks. However, to truly compete, the Encore had to cut prices to be offered at a competitive rate. Did the price reduction cut out some of its luxury? 

How Luxurious Is The Buick Encore? 

The base model of the Buick Encore begins around $23k, making it a little more expensive than the Nissan Kicks, which starts around $18k and a lot cheaper than the Ford Edge, which comes in at $31k. 

For this price, you get a moderate fuel efficiency with an average of up to 25 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. However, the Kicks gets an average of 31 mph in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. 

In terms of power, the Encore is pretty average. The standard 1.4-L four-cylinder engine only pumps out 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft torque. However, you can upgrade to the 1.4-L engine that provides 158 horsepower and 177 lb-ft torque. 

Also, the Encore has a lackluster acceleration. It takes 9.6 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, so don’t expect to speed around town. 

But to our surprise, the Buick Encore does have all-wheel drive options available. Every trim option, but the base model has AWD, so if you want to take this little SUV in the snow, you’ll have to pay a bit more. 

Buick Encore Features 

The Buick Encore is a compact SUV that feels little on the outside as well as the inside. Even though it can fit up to five passengers, it doesn’t do so well. One common complaint about this vehicle includes its small backseat. 

Also, it’s cargo space isn’t great either. There is only 18.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat. If you fold the seats down, then you can only access 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space. Because it’s space is so limited, the Encore is far behind the competition. 

However, the Encore has a nice interior. It’s getting positive reviews for having high-quality build materials. Drivers and passengers are also pleased with the 8” touchscreen infotainment center instead of having a cluster of buttons. 

The Buick Encore app can connect to Apple Car Play and Android Auto like it’s competitors, but its app sets it apart. Use myBuick on your smartphone to lock the doors, start the engine, view a diagnostic report, and more. 

Plus, with features like triple door seals and BuickQuiet technology, the cabin offers a smooth and quiet ride for extra comfort. You can also use the power moonroof to allow more fresh air and light to enhance your journey. 

This Buick also fairs well with the standard safety features such as forward collision prevention, blind-spot monitoring, and more. 

However, the Stabilitrak feature automatically detects slippage to apply brake pressure and reduce engine power when needed to help you maintain control in slippery conditions such as ice and snow. 

Overall, the Buick Encore seems smaller and weak compared to its competitors. However, it does offer a smooth, comfortable ride. It’s quiet interior, and nimble turning radius make this SUV incredibly convenient to take around the city with improved comfort and adequate technology.
