Is the Land Rover Range Rover Really One of the Most Beautiful Vehicles?
AutoGuide.com put out their list of the most beautiful vehicles of 2019 late last year. That the Land Rover Range Rover made that list might raise a few eyebrows, but when you take a look at why they put it on the list, perhaps it’s not so surprising.
What did AutoGuide.com have to say about the Range Rover? What do fans have to look forward to in 2020 models?
The Land Rover Range Rover is a beautifully styled SUV
According to AutoGuide.com, the Land Rover Range Rover is one of the most visually-appealing SUVs on the road currently. With a modern take on proportions and style, they point out that the designers’ playful use of accents and styling cues make it stand out. It has a distinctive but subtle grille and flush-mounted LED lighting that help the large SUV stand out.
The height and length of the roof and the way it visually ends at the subtle rear roof spoiler give it an elegant, wind-swept look. The aluminum-colored sash running down the side and along the bottom of the SUV lends a certain sophistication while bringing the overall body look all together.
The clean, modern design with its large dual exhausts and larger wheels makes it an upscale SUV that stands apart for the right reasons in a sea of competition.
Why the Land Rover Range Rover made the list
AutoGuide.com says the vehicles on its most beautiful list are there because they caught the eye and made them want to take a closer look.
They liked the Land Rover Range Rover inside and out. They noted that the cabin was upscale and luxurious with the wise use of high-end materials like creamy leather, metal, and wood. They like the fragrance of the interior that lingers on you even after you’ve exited the SUV. The team loved the posh cabin with a clean, upscale design that is more than a match for the exterior that also impressed them.
They consider the Land Rover Range Rover to be one of the most premium SUVs available. They explained that the Range Rovers especially offer exceptional luxury without sacrificing legitimate off-road credibility. There’s a Jaguar-sourced V8 engine in the supercharged models that put out 510 hp.
Why some may disagree
According to Car and Driver, the Range Rover isn’t the hard-working vehicle of the past. Today’s Range Rover is an upscale status symbol with its plush cabin, a slew of top technology, and a price tag in the six-figure range.
Despite the luxury, they explain it’s still very capable when it comes off-roading. It may even be more off-road capable than the original version. Regardless of the road, the Range Rover provides a comfortable ride with upscale upholstery and rich wood trim. It has an impressive touchscreen infotainment system too.
They find the exterior styling synonymous with luxury but boxy. While it might give one a certain appearance to have it parked in their driveway, there are a few detractors. It’s a thirsty vehicle, and the fuel economy isn’t the best. There are three gas powertrains, and the diesel engine gets the best gas mileage. The 2020 models introduce a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
All models have selected all-wheel-drive systems with eight-speed automatic transmissions. They found the models with the V8 engines have surprisingly quick acceleration and they sound great. They found the fore-aft and pitch oscillation to be a problem for every model though. They also described Range Rover as “sloppy” when matched against the BMW X5 M and the Mercedes-AMG GLS63.
Still, with its off-road prowess and visual beauty, the Range Rover will have many overlooking certain driving performance deficiencies. For those who want a true luxury SUV and have deep pockets, the new Land Rover Range Rover will be very appealing.
