The CX-5 offers some of the best both worlds; it provides sporty power but without the noise. In fact, the CX-5 is one of the quietest models in the non-luxury compact SUV class, according to Consumer Reports. Its engine is muted, plus, road and wind noise doesn’t put a damper on its cabin experience.

Mazda’s luxury-focused mindset is evident in the CX-5. As CR notes, Mazda added more weight to this SUV, which helped it attain a quieter cabin. The added weight doesn’t compromise the CX-5′ s performance, and its three engine choices make it a more dynamic model.

The CX-5 boasts agility and enjoyable power, even on the base model. Reviewers at CR especially like this SUV because of its responsiveness and sharp handling; fuel economy is a bright spot too. Most drivers will be satisfied with the standard CX-5, which has a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a polished six-speed automatic transmission.

If you are interested in more power available on the CX-5, there are two other options to consider. The turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 227-hp provides the peppiest experience. There’s also a 168-hp, 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine that’s only available on all-wheel-drive models.

You won’t find much to complain about on the inside of the CX-5. In addition to its luxury-like performance, it has an upscale feeling cabin too. Soft-touch materials, intricate detailing, and minimal plastic finishings make the CX-5’s cabin one of the most refined in the class.

This Mazda’s comfortable and stylish interior makes it appealing to those from all walks of life. The CX-5 can carry five people comfortably, and it is easy to get and in and out of. It also offers the modern in-car gadgets we’ve come to expect too.

We like that the CX-5 comes standard with a suite of active safety features. These include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. A few more are available, such as traffic sign recognition.

However, there is a slight drawback regarding the CX-5’s infotainment features. It comes with a few items, like a 7-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth. But unfortunately, you have to upgrade for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some have also complained that the CX-5’s infotainment system is outdated, but that changes for the 2021 model
