Many automakers are creating electric and plug-in hybrid models because of where the trend is going. We can expect to see a Hybrid Ford F-150, Jeep Renegade, and more toward the end of 2021 and into 2022.

However, The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is available now. But is it ahead of the game, or is it a flop? Let’s see if its a good hybrid option or not.

Is The Toyota Highlander Hybrid A Good Option?

The 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid starts around $38k, which seems fair. Smaller models like the Kia Soul EV begin around $30k, so the extra power and capabilities that come with the Highlander seem like a good deal so far.

Because  Highlander Hybrid is a larger SUV that can sit up to eight passengers, it also has much more space than other hybrid options so far.

It’s ranked highly as one of the best hybrid options for families, despite having a cramped third row of seats.

The Highlander Hybrid also has a pretty good fuel economy. It gets up to 36 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

Toyota Highlander Hybrid Power

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 247 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.

Previous models had a more powerful V6 engine, but the 2020 received the 2.5L engine to improve its fuel economy. If you want more power, consider a used option.

However, the 2020 Toyota Highlander isn’t weak by any means. It can tow up to 3,500 lb, making it competitive with other SUV options like the RAV 4.

But to our disappointment, the Highlanders build that includes a 2.5L engine, and two electric motors doesn’t have much pep. It takes 7.6 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. This feels a little sluggish.

However, on a good note, the Highlander Hybrid is available in all-wheel drive, giving it the ability to handle a little snow and off-roading situations.

Toyota Highlander Hybrid Features

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid incorporates a luxurious interior and smooth ride with broad, padded leather seats. Plus, the Tri-Zone Climate control allows all of your passengers to remain comfortable.

You’ll find a 12.3” touch screen display in the dash that can connect to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Alexa. Higher trim options also have wireless charging available.

You can also turn your car into a 4G LTE hotspot with Wi-Fi connectivity to always stay connected. By having five USB ports and two 12V plugs, your entire family can charge their favorite devices during trips.

We are impressed by the massive panoramic moonroof that allows more light to filter into the cabin and add to its spacious feel.

Behind the 3rd row of seats, you can access up to 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the seats down to increase the amount of cargo space to up to 84.3 ft of cubic space. That’s more than enough room to haul items for weekend projects.

So, if you don’t feel like waiting on new Hybrid options to roll out, the Highlander Hybrid is pretty good. It’s reasonably powerful and extremely comfortable with advanced tech and safety features.
