For this year, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson SUV does come with a Hybrid powertrain option. Hyundai offers the Tucson Hybrid sport utility vehicle in five different trim levels. Is it worth it to buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid?
If you spend a lot of time driving and appreciate the extra fuel economy, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is a good option. The 2022 Tucson starts at $26,245 for the regular powertrain and $31,045 for the Hybrid. Car and Driver gave the gasoline version high marks for the exterior design, well-designed cabin, and solid on-road manners.
Hyundai also offers the Tucson Hybrid in a PHEV plug-in hybrid option. Both options received a front motor and a 1.6L turbo gasoline engine. The Hybrid gets 226 hp, and the PHEV gets 261 hp. Both options have done away with the CVT transmission and switched to the traditional six-speed. Hyundai included all-wheel drive as standard, which can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

How is the Tucson’s fuel economy?
Looking at the fuel economy estimated for the Hybrid, it gets 38 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The plug-in version gets 80 MPGe combined and 33 miles when using only the electric motor. For the gasoline version, the Tucson returns 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2022 Tucson Hybrid a four-star safety rating. The non-hybrid version earned the same score, with high marks from the front and side crash tests. Experts at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety made the Tucson a Top Safety Pick Plus award winner, too.
Both SUVs earned high marks from experts, and the added fuel economy is just another bonus. The upgraded exterior styling and additional interior features make both powertrains solid options.
