The Jeep-made Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are full-size luxury SUVs. These models were all new for the 2022 model year. Even though 2023 is only the second year of Wagoneer production, the 2023 models will offer an all-new powertrain and a stretched chassis option.

You can order a Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer “L” if you need even more room

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are full-size truck-based SUVs. But Jeep decided to offer an even bigger version, the “L” stretched chassis. The automaker added 7 inches to the Wagoneer’s wheelbase (for 130 inches total) and 12 inches to the SUV’s body. Obviously, this will increase the SUV’s rear overhang by 5 inches and negatively impact its departure angle while off-road.

The Wagoneer L offers more space for rear passengers. Reviewers have found that even adults over six feet tall can comfortably sit in the reclining third-row seat and enjoy the third-row sunroof.

Behind this third row, the Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L boast 44.2 cubic feet of storage space. That’s plenty of trunk room for large items like coolers, even while loaded with up to eight passengers.

Jeep builds the Wagoneer L with a special, powerful engine option so it still has plenty of get-up-and-go.

The 2023 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer offer a powerful turbocharged I6

The biggest headline concerning the 2023 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer has been that it will be the first application of Stellantis’ new V8 replacement engine. The Hurricane is a 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder. It features two lightweight turbochargers, each servicing three cylinders to reduce turbo lag. These turbos, and other advanced technology, allow this I6 to make enough power to replace engines twice its size.

Stellantis will actually offer the Hurricane in two tunes. The regular engine makes 22 psi of turbo boost, 420 horsepower, and 468 lb-ft of torque and it will power the 2023 Wagoneer L. The high output (HO) Hurricane makes 26 psi of turbo boost, 510 horsepower, and 500 lb-ft of torque. Grand Wagoneer L SUVs will come with the HO Hurricane.

A base model 2023 Wagoneer Series I will still come with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 it shares with the Ram 1500. But the 2023 WAgoneer Series II and Series III will come with the new I6 whether a regular wheelbase or L.

Likewise, if you order a Grand Wagoneer Series I with a regular wheelbase, you’ll get the 6.4-liter (392 cubic inch) HEMI V8 it shares with Ram 2500 trucks and the Wrangler 392. Every Grand Wagoneer “L” as well as every Series II and Series III trim, will come with the V8.

Jeep won’t increase the base Wagoneer’s price

If you order a 2022 Wagoneer today, you are looking at a $58,995 MSRP. The 2023 version features the exact same starting price. But remember, that entry-level Series I still features the 2022 engine. The 2023 Series II and II with the 3.0-liter I6 upgrade will both be slightly different.

The 2022 Wagoneer Series II’s current MSRP is $69,640, but the 2023 version’s price is actually dropping to $65,725. The 2022 Wagoneer Series III has an MSRP of $74,640, while the 2023 version is dropping to $71,865.

Why would these upper-trim Wagoneers offer a lower 2023 MSRP? The answer may be that Jeep expects most buyers to opt for the Wagoneer L, which is a $3,000 up-charge. Jeep is also deleting the Carbide blacked-out badging package on lower trim levels and making it a Series II exclusive.
