Jeeps are popular SUVs around America, and Jeep has a car for everybody. Jeep has smaller SUVs like the Compass as well as pickup trucks with Jeep’s signature stylings, such as the Gladiator. And, for Jeep fans with a deep wallet, there’s the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition, which is the most expensive Wrangler yet.

What comes with the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition?

As Autoblog reported, Jeep makes the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine standard on this trim of the Wrangler. That engine will replace the 3.6-liter V6 that was on the Wrangler. Additionally, that 2.0-liter engine only comes with an automatic transmission, so customers won’t be able to get a manual transmission for it.

That 2.0-liter engine isn’t a normal turbocharged engine, either. As Autoblog said, it also comes with a mild hybrid system called eTorque. This mild hybrid system helps the engine accelerate better when it’s at a complete stop. Autoblog says that the 2.0-liter engine generates 270-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is better than the V6’s 285-hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The Wrangler gets upgraded looks

While the new standard engine is more powerful, the majority of the changes are related to the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition’s looks. Autoblog reports that it’ll have cloth seats with soft-touch materials inside the cabin. The seatbelts are red and Jeep also has fancy decals on the hood and body of this new Wrangler trim.

Additionally, there’s the Recon badge, “Moab” rock rails, new LED head and tail lights, and 33-inch all-terrain tires that are attached to 17-inch wheels that have a black finish, according to Autoblog. All of these features are available at a price of about $43,000 for the two-door version of the Wrangler and $48,000 for the four-door version.

Jeep says that it’s the most expensive Wrangler if you choose the four-door version of the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition. With the two-door version, the Sahara Altitude and North Edition trims of the Wrangler are slightly more expensive than the Rubicon Recon Edition is, but only because those trims don’t offer a two-door version.

For comparison, the most basic Wrangler trim the Sport trim, costs $28,000 with two-doors and $32,000 with four-doors. This means that the four-door Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition is much more expensive than the basic Wrangler with four-doors is.

Is this special edition Jeep worth it?

Different people have different reasons to buy a car, so the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition is not for everybody. As Autoblog reported, the majority of the upgrades are to the Wrangler’s looks.

If its new looks don’t appeal to you, and none of the options make it look any better, then you aren’t getting much out of this new trim other than a more powerful standard engine.

But Jeep does offer a lot of options for owners of the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition. For example, Autoblog mentions that there’s the sticker and badging package as well as options for more black pieces in and around the Wrangler. But, while the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition will look good, it’s not an especially fast or powerful SUV by any means.

Autoblog says that it’s speed-limited to 97 MPH, but most people who are driving or thinking about driving a Jeep are probably not looking for a fast SUV. Jeeps are great for off-roading, and the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition is no different. This $48,000 trim of the Wrangler seems to be Jeep’s car of choice for customers who want to off-road in luxury and in style.

Your mileage may vary in terms of how attractive and appealing you find the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition, but it should be able to handle adventuring just fine.
