Is This Luxury SUV Really a Budget Rolls-Royce Cullinan?
There are families all across America buying crossover SUVs from the mainstream segment. There are also a few at the top of the food chain that can actually afford to buy something like a Rolls-Royce. For those in search of a luxury SUV and also manage that demographic, there’s the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
But they cost a small fortune. The cost of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan could actually buy a very nice house in most major cities across America. So what do you do if you can afford a little luxury but don’t feel prudent buying a Rolls-Royce because you can’t justify the cost? You turn to the Genesis GV80.
How much is a Rolls-Royce Cullinan?
According to Car and Driver, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is the company’s best-selling models. It’s dripping in luxury with an abundance of quality materials and an extremely high price tag. If you want to tote your family around in a Rolls Royce Cullinan, you better have enough wealth to cover the $335,000 cost.
“Without doubt, the 2020 Rolls-Royce Cullinan is the fanciest SUV on the planet, and that’s why it costs a small fortune.”

However, there is a more feasible alternative that provides a comparable amount of luxury for a fraction of the price. In fact, the Genesis GV80 costs a bit over just 21% of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. But how can these luxury SUVs compete? Is the Genesis GV80 a Rolls-Royce Cullinan with a budget price tag?
The Genesis GV80
In the video, we get both an exterior and interior review. The team at The Fast Lane isn’t permitted to drive the Genesis GV80 yet. However, we get a nice feel for how far this model goes in terms of luxury just by watching the video. The first feature we are shown is the stacked horizontal headlights.
This luxury SUV displays an ‘athletic elegance’ in the design language used for the exterior styling. The Genesis GV80 comes equipped with either a 2.5-liter turbo or V6 twin-turbo engine. The latter of these gets up to 375 horsepower with 391 pound-feet of torque.
As opposed to the ridiculous six-figure price tag seen on the Rolls Royce Cullinan, the Genesis GV80 starting price is much lower. According to the video, the TFL tester has a price tag of $72,375. If we look at the Car and Driver report on the 2021 Genesis GV80, however, an even lower starting price of $49,925 is posted.
Either way, the Genesis SUV will cost significantly less than a Rolls-Royce. In addition, it earns high praise from Car and Driver. The con listed for the GV80 luxury SUV says “with a sumptuously appointed and whisper-quiet cabin, the 2021 GV80 is exactly the flagship SUV the Genesis brand needs to be taken seriously by American consumers.”
An ‘absurd amount of attention to detail’
the video review shows the top to bottom luxury quite well. There are extensively detailed knobs and buttons for everything. Soft pliable leather covers nearly every surface. The infotainment system and dash display are of the utmost modern technology. Plus, the driver gets all kinds of luxury options to enhance the driving experience. The TFL host remarks that the quilted leather is “mind-blowing” in terms of luxury finish.
Overall, the Genesis GV80 and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan are both top luxury SUVs. If you don’t want to pay $335,000 for yours, try the Genesis GV80. From the 21-speaker sound system to the intuitive knobs for things like various drive modes and putting the car in park the GV80 proves that you don’t have to sell the family farm in order to get that high-end luxury SUV you’ve been dreaming about.
