The Toyota Camry is one of the most dependable vehicles in automotive history. Not only is the Toyota Camry a top-selling vehicle for the US market, but it is also the most predictable vehicle. For years now, the Toyota Camry has become a household name, mostly due to its predictability.

Nothing about the Toyota Camry is exciting in 2023. Unless you are one of the few people on earth who find bulletproof reliability, inoffensive conservative design, and decent performance numbers exciting, the Camry will probably leave you wanting more. Here is everything you need to know about why the Toyota Camry is played out in 2023.

The Toyota Camry has a dated interior

When it comes to midsize sedans like the Toyota Camry, available technology and interior quality often take a backseat for the sake of affordability. The Camry, therefore, has a very uninspired cabin.

According to U.S. News, the technology found in the interior of the Camry leaves a lot to be desired. While the infotainment screen is easy to navigate, it doesn’t respond as well as other rivals on the market. The Camry’s 7-inch base infotainment screen is also downright embarrassing in 2023, especially when bargain bin fleet-ready sedans like the Chevy Malibu have a bigger touchscreen.

The Camry is also full of hard plastics in the interior, and while the seats are comfortable, the interior looks stale unless you opt for an upmarket trim. The cargo space found in the Camry is also below average with only 15.1 cu-ft of space available in the trunk.

When it comes down to it, nearly every other midsize sedan on the marketplace offers a better base model experience when it comes to the interior.

The Toyota Camry’s drivability is only average

The Toyota Camry comes with a choice of two engines; a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces around 203 horsepower and a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which outputs around 301 horsepower.

All models come standard with front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is an option on all models except for the performance-minded TRD model. While these horsepower numbers aren’t bad, they are hampered by the Camry’s pedestrian handling.

According to J.D. Power, the Kia K5, a newer competitor in the midsize sedan marketplace, performs much better as a driver’s car on the road. In the cabin, the Toyota Camry also suffers from excessive road noise and wind noise at high speed, which makes even the more up-trim models feel a little rough from behind the wheel.

The Toyota Camry is played out in 2023

The Camry is a very successful vehicle, with GoodCarBadCar reporting that the Toyota Camry has sold over a quarter of a million vehicles per year, at least going back through the 2005 model year. However, its lack of innovation and complacent engineering make the Camry look boring among the competition.

The Kia K5 offers one of the most modern and advanced midsize sedan experiences on the market, while the Chevy Malibu offers a very affordable package with a solid amount of standard tech.

The Camry remains a household name for dependability, but due to this complacency, it simply falls short of the competition. The Camry is a solid choice if you don’t care what you are driving, but for anyone who wants a little excitement behind the wheel of their vehicle, look elsewhere.
