It’s a Hit: Ford Saw 10,000 Orders a Day for Its All New Super Duty Trucks
Ford recently announced the new 2023 Super Duty trucks, the new 2023 F-250 and F-350 versions of its pickups. The new heavy duty trucks, come with a host of new improvements and some stunning power numbers. But, in new sales figures, one number stood out. Order banks opened for the 2023 Super Duty on Oct. 27 and so far, more than 52,000 total new orders were placed in five days.
That’s more than 10,000 orders per day for a truck that’s usually a niche vehicle. Ford can’t call the orders “sales,” yet, but 52,000 orders is a lot for this type of truck in just five days.
What does Ford Super Duty mean?
In Ford speak, Super Duty means the F-250 and F-350 trucks, which are the big workhorses of the Ford truck lineup. These trucks are the workhorses of the Ford lineup, and they tow more, haul more, weigh more and have more power than regular F-150 trucks. They compete with the Silverado HD and the Ram HD 2500 and 3500 trucks. Super Duty trucks are not upgraded consumer trucks but purpose-built work trucks on their own frame that can be basic or luxurious. The trucks are so popular that Ford essentially sold out of 2022s.
The all new 2023 Super Duty was just announced
The new trucks were announced just a few weeks ago and are all new from the ground up. But, wisely, Ford kept them looking like the towing and hauling beasts we will all recognize. The trucks get a host of new goodies to give more utility on the job site, like Pro Power Onboard. You can also order onboard scales, as well as new box steps in the bed, and active cameras. The new seats, too, can fold almost completely flat. Its new tailgate is automatic, and it has two cameras, alone on top of 12 others on the rest of the truck.
The new truck gets a heads-up display, too, to show speed and other vital info. But, when you’re in off-road mode. The new Pro Trailer Hitch Assist will automatically back the truck up to a trailer. It then uses the onboard scales to measure tongue weight so you’re trailer is balanced.
How much power does the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel make?
The newest version of the High Output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel makes 1,200 lb-ft of torque and 500 horsepower. Those numbers mean that the engine trumps anything short of a Peterbilt. But that’s not all the news from Ford, the new 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine available in the F-350 now makes 430 horsepower and 485 lv-ft of torque. The regular (non-High Output) 6.7-liter Power Stroke makes the same power, at 475 horsepower but 1,050 lb-ft of torque.
With the updates to the Power Stroke, that means that the new truck has a maximum towing capacity of 40,000 pounds. That’s about the weight of a garbage truck or a large fire truck. A 2023 Super Duty can also now haul 8,000 pounds in the bed, which is as much as a Chevy Tahoe SUV and a Prius C. Together. Of course, to get that kind of power you’ll have to order the F-450 truck in the regular cab variant, and equip it properly. Though these kinds of numbers make headlines, keep in mind that in most states you’ll need a commercial driver’s license to tow more than 10,000 pounds.
How much does a new 2023 Super Duty truck cost?
The Super Duty trucks carry the heavy stuff. While the F-150 is the truck most of us see on the road, or even use, the Super Duty trucks are the ones that you see at job sites towing massive trailers and hauling huge amounts of stuff and start at about $45,000. These things can tow up to 37,000 pounds with a gooseneck trailer and up to 7,850 pounds in the bed.
