Picking the 2020 Ford Mustang Over the 2021 Chevy Camaro Appears To Be the Correct Choice
While muscle cars are no longer in fashion, automakers are still building these cars and still trying to one-up each other. The 2020 Ford Mustang is still a powerful beast of a car, as is the 2021 Chevy Camaro. That being said, there are winners and losers in any competition, and it’s clear which one of these modern muscle cars is the better one.
What the 2021 Chevy Camaro is good at
According to U.S. News, when it comes to the Camaro’s interior, it beats the Mustang in terms of tech. The Camaro comes standard with a 7-inch touch screen display that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is a pretty standard infotainment offering on most sedans, but the Mustang doesn’t have a standard touch screen display, so the Camaro is clearly the better car in this regard.
On top of that, while both cars are very fast, like U.S. News wrote, the Camaro is much lighter than the Mustang is, and this allows it to handle better than the Mustang can.
However, the thing that the Camaro is much better than the Mustang at is pricing. In terms of its lower-end models, the Camaro is about $700 cheaper than the Mustang is.
In terms of the higher-end models, the differences become starker. The most powerful Mustang trim costs about $6,000 more than the most powerful Camaro trim does. That being said, the Mustang is much better than the Camaro is in many areas.
What the 2020 Ford Mustang is good at
Off the bat, the Mustang is better than the Camaro when it comes to power, which is what most muscle car customers are looking for. The standard Mustang comes with a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gets 310-hp while the standard Camaro has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gets 275-hp.
This power difference is even more dramatic in the high-end models. The most powerful Mustang has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that gets 760-hp while the most powerful Camaro has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that gets 650-hp. As a result of these power differences, the Mustang generally accelerates faster than the Camaro can at similar trim levels.
Power aside, the Mustang is better than the Camaro in utility, too. While U.S. News wrote that the Camaro’s interior had a “more futuristic cabin design,” U.S. News ultimately said that the Mustang’s interior was simply built better and that Ford used better materials, too.
Despite being a muscle car, U.S. News said that the Mustang’s rear seats could actually fit adults, while the Camaro’s rear seats were too cramped for adults.
Why the 2020 Ford Mustang is better
That’s not all, either. Despite being more powerful, the Mustang also had a slightly better fuel economy, according to U.S. News. Additionally, while muscle car owners might not care too much about cargo capacity, the Mustang also wins in this category by a significant margin. U.S. News said that the Mustang had about 13.9 cu. ft. of trunk space while the Camaro only had 9.1 cu. ft. of trunk space.
Furthermore, U.S. News said that the Mustang is significantly more reliable than the Camaro was. The Mustang had an above-average reliability score while the Camaro’s reliability score was “well below average.”
It’s a similar story when it comes to safety ratings. While both cars don’t have many standard smart safety features, U.S. News wrote that the Mustang had a better crash-test score.
For all these reasons, U.S. News said that the Mustang is clearly better than the Camaro is. That being said, the Camaro isn’t a bad car by any means, it’s just not as good as the Mustang is.
