You may have heard the phrase “the rich will get richer,” but what happens when a rich person actually does get richer? A little bit of history

The Maybach brand was founded by Wilhelm Maybach, who was an engineer that actually worked on the first Mercedes car produced in 1900. He left Mercedes in 1907 and together with his son, Karl, produced the first Maybach Type W3 in 1921, which gave rise to the popularity of the “double M” logo.

The Maybach company was eventually acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1960 and eventually became a standalone ultra-luxury car brand that shared platforms with Mercedes-Benz. In the late 20^th century and into the 21^st century, the Maybach company eventually became a sub-brand under Mercedes and now produces ultra-luxury versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Ultra-luxury, ultra-performance

 You might be wondering just how luxurious “ultra-luxurious” is, and we would say that it’s more luxurious than you can imagine. There are two models currently in the Mercedes-Maybach lineup: the S560 and the S650 sedan.

They’re basically the same car, except one has a bigger engine than the other. The S560 is powered by a 4.0-liter, Biturbo V8 engine that produces 463 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque while the S650 seamlessly glides over the road with its 6.0-liter, Biturbo V12 engine that pushes out 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. For reference, that’s about as much horsepower and way more torque than a Lamborghini Huracan.

But of course, these cars aren’t made for performance, although they can both gallantly glide up to 60 mph in a little over 4.5 seconds. That’s pretty quick considering they both weigh over 5,000 pounds. Their quickness can be attributed to their all-wheel-drivetrain that’s fed power through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Opulence is standard

If you’re looking to build and price a car at this level, then cost should definitely not be any concern. We say that because the S560 starts at $173,000 and the S650 starts at $202,550. Once you know which model you want, then you can pick from 22 different color schemes which can range from $0 to $12,000 depending on if you want something in the metallic variety, or perhaps a two-toned scheme. Don’t forget to choose your $5,000 set of wheels, though.

When you’re done with the exterior of the car, then you can address the interior and choose from 14 different types of Nappa leather upholstery, which could add on another $1,400. But that’s not all, you need to find the type of trim that best suits your persona, we recommend the “Magnolia ‘flowing lines’ wood,” which costs an extra $1,300. Since you’ll be sitting in the back seat, then you’ll definitely want the Executive Rear Seat Package Plus that includes dual power rear seats with folding tables and heated and cooled cupholders.

When it’s all said and done, your exquisite S650 will cost about $233,450, which is pennies considering a Lamborghini Huracan retails for around $260,000. But with the Mercedes-Maybach S650, you’ll have more seats, more comfort, and more storage for all those $100 bills you had no idea what to do with. And with the Maybach, you won’t have to worry about getting challenged at stoplights for drag races, instead, you can kindly roll down your window and ask the car next to you if they have any Grey Poupon.
