It’s What’s on the Inside That Counts for the 2022 Grand Wagoneer
Jeep is trying very hard to make its interiors into places you want to be. The brand has really tried hard in its luxury seven-passenger 2022 Grand Wagoneer and 2022 Grand Wagoneer L, and that effort is paying off. Wards Auto has named the Jeep Grand Wagoneer a winner of its 10 Best Interiors and UX for 2022. The Grand Wagoneer was new for 2022 and is a full-size SUV that can seat up to eight in leather-and-wood lined luxury.
Grand Wagoneers can have more than 75 inches of screens in the cabin
The Grand Wagoneer interior combines modern technology and mid-century modern design cues in this ultra-luxury SUV. Piano-black, chrome, leather, and a bunch of screens wrap around the front passengers. Lot of screens. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer has seven screens, and up to 75 inches of total screen display area, including nearly 45 inches of screens on the front instrument panel alone. It’s also a capable full-size SUV that offers four-wheel-drive and generous towing capability.
The new Grand Wagoneer is a far cry from the 1980s Grand Wagoneer
While Jeep says the Grand Wagoneer is “rooted in Jeep brand heritage,” 30 years ago the Grand Wagoneer was designed to be superbly utilitarian. They were for fishing, and proud of it.
In 1986, nobody was worried about how many USB-C ports were in the back. The second-row seats didn’t even have shoulder belts or headrests. Instead of supple leather, all you could get was slippery vinyl.
A third row? Not at all. Including the front bench, it had seats for six. But the Wagoneer was really a “How many of you fit back there?” SUV. About the only amenities you could get in a 1986 Grand Wagoneer were dome lights, an air conditioner, and a radio. Carpet covered the way-back in some, but that was an option. The “wood” paneling on the dash was plastic. The rest of the dash was, too.
What makes the interior a winner?
The interior of the Grand Wagoneer is a nice place to be. It’s no surprise Wards Auto named it to its 10 best. , but options can make it even nicer. It has leather, and wood, and screens, like every luxury SUV. But the Jeep designers worked to make it look modern, yet retro, at once. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer features hand-wrapped, quilted Palermo leather seats in all three rows. But in a large SUV like this, it’s not just about the technology but the room. The Grand Wagoneer has 36.6 inches of legroom in the third row, and 42.7 in the second row of the Wagoneer L, which is the long-wheelbase Wagoneer.
The second-row seating group option brings two USB ports to the back and enough seats (with belts) for eight. Those six people in back can be entertained, too, with a pair of 10.1-inch rear screens. To get all of this luxury, however, you may need to spend more $108,000.
The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L can be ordered with the new Hurricane engines. Some select dealers are offering the turbocharged 510-horsepower version of the Hurricane in the Grand Wagoneer on some 2022 models.
Grand Wagoneer has one option that no vehicle has had in 20 years
