This Jaguar Car Deserves Its Own Hollywood Star for Its Film Appearances
It’s no secret that classic cars spice up almost any movie or TV show. However, some cars pop a bit more than others when they roll onto the silver screen. Enter the Jaguar E-Type. The stunning, orchestral Jaguar XK-E has a Hollywood repertoire akin to the best movie stars. Check out some of our favorite on-screen appearances of the most iconic Jaguar ever, like the E-Type in “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.”
Of all Jaguar cars, the E-Type shines the brightest on the silver screen
The Ford Mustang has a more impressive Hollywood background than countless celebrities. However, the Mustang doesn’t have a monopoly on the Monoplex. Instead, one of the most instantly recognizable cars Jaguar ever made has made an impression on moviegoers for decades.
- Vanishing Point (1971)
- Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
- Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
- She’s Out of Control (1989)
These films don’t represent the only time that the Jaguar XK-E hit the big screen. In fact, the XK-E, or “E-Type” in European markets, has captured the attention of fans in TV shows, movies, and even video games. However, these four films represent our favorite Hollywood sightings of the brilliant British classic.
A dastardly car from Jaguar was one of the coolest cars in ‘Vanishing Point’
Fans of the car enthusiast favorite “Vanishing Point” (1971) will immediately conjure mental images of a white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T blasting across the desert. However, those moviegoers who have a stronger recollection of the film will remember a blue 1966 Jaguar XK-E attempting to run the comparatively brutish Challenger off the road.
It’s not a frequent occurrence that a Jaguar E-Type serves as a baddie’s car, but in “Vanishing Point,” the open-top XK-E has nothing but ill intent. Still, the Jag’s battle with the hulking V8 muscle car makes for very entertaining cinema.
What Jaguar car does Eggsy drive in ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle?’
In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin cruises up to the storefront of the Kingsman Tailor Shop in a dark green Eagle Jaguar E-Type Coupe. Of all the British cars with sufficient screen presence for a jet-setting secret agent, the classic Jaguar E-Type is a no-brainer casting choice.
Unfortunately, fans only get to see the E-Type for a brief period. However, the charming green E-Type and its musical 4.2L straight six-cylinder are a perfect pairing for Henry Jackman’s swelling soundtrack.
‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’ features a hilariously patriotic Jaguar E-Type
Mike Myers’ famous character, Austin Powers, started with the franchise’s first film, “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.” It doesn’t take long for fans to see the parody secret agent slide into the cockpit of a Union Jack-laden 1961 Jaguar E-Type Convertible with a license plate reading “SWINGER.”
What’s more, Powers’ Jag has its own apropos and yet, in many ways, inappropriate name: the “Shaguar.” Oh, behave.
The Jaguar XK-E in ‘She’s Out of Control’ is just as out-of-control as the film’s title
While some Jaguar E-Types pop up on the screen as a set piece or statuesque accouterment, others are entertaining racers. In “She’s Out of Control,” Tony Danza’s character, Doug Simpson, races a 1964 Jaguar XK-E against a C2 Chevrolet Corvette.
Unfortunately, Danza’s hair isn’t the craziest thing in the scene. After stalling the bright-red Jag convertible on tracks, a train turns the XK-E 4.2 into scrap metal in an almost overly pyrotechnic display.
