The Jaguar F-TYPE had big shoes to fill as soon as the sports car hit the streets; it was the spiritual replacement for the X150 Jaguar XK series and carried the weight of prolific Jaguar models like the venerable XKE and XK120. While it lived up to the legacy of models past, time is up for the model. So, is the Jaguar F-TYPE 75 and R 75 a fitting conclusion to the last word in sports car class?

Is the Jaguar F-TYPE being discontinued?

Unfortunately for fans of the gas-powered sports car, the Jaguar will discontinue the F-TYPE coupe and convertible after 2024. The Jaguar model has been around for nearly 10 years and has served as one of the marque’s only true two-seater sports cars since the XJS of the 1990s. 

The XK series had just one year of model overlap with the F-TYPE, but those cars were more of a grand tourer (GT) than a traditional sports car. The XK models had back seats, albeit snug seats, whereas the F-TYPE is a two-seater coupe and convertible. With the demise of the F-TYPE, Jaguar will be saying goodbye to its last two-door sports-oriented model. However, the marque isn’t going to send its last gas-powered sports car off without a celebration.  

What is the Jaguar F-TYPE 75? 

The Jaguar F-TYPE 75 is a tribute model celebrating 75 years of stunning sports cars from one of the most iconic names in the business. Moreover, the F-TYPE 75 is available as a standard and an R model. 

The new F-TYPE 75 features ‘Calligraphy’ J signature daytime running lights, subtle badging, and an imposing 12.3-inch touchscreen. Additionally, the R 75 model has a quad exhaust setup and diamond-turned 10-spoke wheels in gloss black. Furthermore, the special edition 75 models offer a unique hue, Giola Green metallic, to complement its gloss black wheels. 

Matthew Beaven, Jaguar Land Rover’s Chief Exterior Designer, says that the F-TYPE 75 has “unique interior and exterior design details to celebrate this lineage before Jaguar becomes an all-electric brand from 2025.” The new special edition isn’t just a tribute; it’s a bookend of the gas-powered Jaguar sports car era. 

Is the Jaguar F-TYPE a V8?

The most recent Jaguar F-TYPEs, including the special edition 75 models, pack V8 engines exclusively. Jaguar’s powerplant of choice for the sports car line is the thrust-happy supercharged 5.0L V8, with up to 575 horsepower. 

If you think the two-seater sports car will be unmanageable with 575 horsepower, think again. The F-TYPE R rides on its P450 and P575 all-wheel drive (AWD) systems for snappy launches and grippy handling in inclement weather. The automaker builds its supercharged 5.0L V8 engines at Jaguar Land Rover’s Wolverhampton facility in the United Kingdom. 

Jaguar says the R 75 will hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and the 450-horsepower 75 model will do the same run in 4.4 seconds. Furthermore, the new F-TYPE 75 and R 75 also pack lightweight aluminum suspension components and electronic aids to make the most of the model’s AWD system. According to Car and Driver, the automaker intends for the tweaks to increase steering feel. Pair the eight-cylinder engines and tuned chassis with an active exhaust system, and you’ve got a seductive swan song model for Jaguar sports cars. 

Is this luxury sports car worth buying?

For Jaguar fans who revile the end of the thunderous, gas-powered era of British sports cars and roadsters, the F-TYPE 75 is a special prospect. The new 2024 Jaguar special edition model will start at around $77,900.
