Jay Leno has driven a lot of cars. He recently checked out the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS, the first all-electric sedan from Mercedes-EQ, the all-electric sub-brand from Mercedes-Benz. He was really positive about the luxury Mercedes-Benz EQS, even saying that it drives smoother than a Rolls-Royce.

Jay Leno: car enthusiast

Leno has been known for many years as a stand-up comedian and host of The Tonight Show. Today he spends more of his time in the automotive world. Leno’s experience owning and driving so many vehicles gives him a unique perspective.

His personal collection includes nearly 200 cars plus 160 motorcycles, and when he left The Tonight Show, he started a web series called Jay Leno’s Garage. Leno shares some of his favorite cars in the series, which can now be found on CNBC. His collection includes vehicles from a three-wheeled Campagna T-Rex, a steam-powered 1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer, to a 1968 Ford Bronco.

The specifics of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS

Instead of being a converted S-Class, the 2022 Mercedes EQS was built as an electric vehicle. In addition to the smooth feel of the ride, the EQS is aerodynamic. It has a very low drag coefficient, with a rating of 0.20cd, making it similar to the Tesla Model S.

The EQS is also a quick car, especially considering its heavy weight. The version Leno tested out was the EQS 580 4MATIC, which has all-wheel drive with two electric motors and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. It produces 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque. The standard trim is the EQS 450+, which is rear-wheel drive with one electric motor. It generates 329 hp and 419 lb-ft of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.

The 450+ has an estimated range of 484 miles, and the 580 4Matic has an expected range between 410 and 420 miles. Those are European WLTP standards, and the EPA estimates are expected to be a bit lower. Both trims have a 107.8-kWh battery pack, says Edmunds.

Leno also said that “every conceivable luxury item is on this car.” The seats are very comfortable and feature massaging, heating, and cooling. In addition to a smooth ride, the EQS also provides an incredibly quiet cabin.

Car and Driver report that the standard tech includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen. Opting for the Hyperscreen upgrades that to a 56.7-inch glass dash pane, which runs the cabin’s width and gives the Mercedes EQS a futuristic style. This screen presents the driver’s instrument panel, the infotainment touchscreen, and an optional touchscreen for the front passenger.

Buyers looking for a super smooth ride should consider the 2022 Mercedes EQS. Pricing hasn’t yet been released, but it should be similar to the gas-powered Mercedes S Class. In addition, the car is eligible for complimentary 30-minute charges at Electrify America stations for two years.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS drives smoother than a Rolls-Royce

According to autoevolution, Leno recently reviewed a 2022 Mercedes EQS on Jay Leno’s Garage and proclaimed it drives smoother than a Rolls-Royce. After driving the car for four or five days, Leno loved the EQS. It offers style, comfort, and performance.

He said, “It’s very impressive. It’s everything you’d expect in an S-Class Mercedes but electric.” The EQS is similar to the gas-powered S-Class. Leno really liked the lack of vibrations in the EQS. He felt that made it effortless to drive and gave it a true sense of luxury.

The electric EQS, luxury vehicles with gas-powered engines, do have some vibrations, including a Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce doesn’t yet offer an all-electric car. Leno described the smooth feel and quiet atmosphere of the EQS, saying, “It’s almost as if you’re watching a video of the outside world.”
