If you’re interested in any vehicles in the full-size truck lineup, look to the experts to find the best option. While many people love the Ram 1500 or classics like the F-150 or Silverado, experts don’t think they’re the best models. JD Power’s highest-rated full-size truck might surprise you. The best full-size truck from JD Power is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.

JD Power‘s best full-size truck is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. That’s right, not the best-selling Ford F-150 or the highest-rated Ram 1500 everyone brags about. It’s even better than the Chevrolet Silverado, the GMC Sierra’s corporate cousin, with which it shares so much. JD Power only ranked these four pickups, so models like the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan are excluded from its list.

The full-size truck segment is one of the most complicated to rank. Not only do models need to be comfortable and spacious with a high-quality ride, but they also need to have classic pickup truck capability. Combining these attributes perfectly is challenging, which is why so many publications’ rankings vary. Why is JD Power‘s best full-size truck the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500?

There are a few different reasons the publication loves the GMC pickup. Using the opinions of current and previous owners, there are many answers. Most commonly, people love the ease of loading and unloading the Sierra 1500. As a full-size truck, cargo can be a significant problem, but thankfully owners have few issues getting things in and out.

Next, the vehicle has many safety systems that are easy to use. For example, the base model and up have frontal collision mitigation and lane-keeping assist. However, higher trims unlock access to adaptive cruise control, a safety alert seat, a bed-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, automatic rear braking, a trailer blind-spot monitor, trailer blind-spot assist, and more.

Lastly, owners like the overall fuel economy of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. Using the most basic 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, the Sierra 1500 averages 19 city and 22 highway mpg. Although it’s only with the base engine, it’s still excellent for a full-size truck.

Where does it rank other models?

Immediately following the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is its sibling, the Chevrolet Silverado. With an 82/100 score overall, it’s just three points behind the Sierra. Notably, it lost some of its score because of the owners’ driving experience. GMC owners loved driving the Sierra 1500, giving it an outstanding 84, while the Silverado owners felt less enthusiastic, scoring the Chevy equivalent just a 75.

Even lower than the Silverado are the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. Surprisingly, they’re the bottom-dwellers, a new placement for these popular trucks. Moreover, the Ram 1500 finished just a point behind the Silverado, while the F-150 fell even further, earning just 79 out of 100 points. The most popular truck in America suffered from average scores in every category, including quality, reliability, driving experience, resale value, and dealership experience.

JD Power’s best full-size truck might surprise you

In conclusion, it’s a bit surprising that the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is JD Power’s best overall full-size truck. Compared to other rankings, most have the F-150, Ram 1500, or another model near the top. The only caveat is that the Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra haven’t been reviewed by JDP. However, not many reviewers place those models near the top anyway. For now, owners and JD Power are happier with the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 than any other full-size truck, surprisingly.
