Should You Be Jealous of the Forbidden Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo Models?
2021 was a big year for Porsche’s electric car, not least because it managed to out-sell the 911. The Porsche Taycan lineup gained a new body style last year, too, the Cross Turismo wagon. And this year, that lineup is getting even bigger with the addition of the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. But as it turns out, European customers are getting even more Sport Turismos to choose from.
The electric Porsche wagon family grows in 2022 with more Taycan Sport Turismo models

As noted earlier, one member of the 2022 Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo sub-lineup has already debuted, the GTS model. But now it’s part of a full model range, just like the Cross Turismo and Taycan sedan. That range also follows the other models’ layouts. So, the base Taycan Sport Turismo is a single-motor RWD electric wagon, while the others are dual-motor AWD EVs.
You’ve likely noticed that these new electric Porsche wagons have ‘Sport’ rather than ‘Cross’ in their names. That’s because the Taycan Sport Turismo models are more preoccupied with paved-road performance than off-road riding. So, they ride slightly lower and don’t have plastic body cladding. Yet because they’re still wagons, they have more rear headroom and cargo space than the Taycan sedan.
As with the sedan, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo tops the range in outright performance. Customers with range anxiety, though, should go with the 4S model. And if the current Taycan 4S sedan is any indication, the Sport Turismo version might outperform its range estimates. But regardless of trim or battery pack, each 2022 Sport Turismo can recharge from 5-80% in a claimed 22.5 minutes. Provided you have a compatible fast-charging station, that is.
Porsche won’t be selling most of them in the US
Unfortunately, Americans won’t be able to experience most of these new Taycan Sport Turismo models. We only get the mid-range GTS trim, while the rest of the world gets the full family.
And this isn’t a 2022-model-year quirk. A Porsche spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver that the GTS will be the Sport Turismo’s sole representative in the US.
The 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is arguably the best of the bunch
Although it’s sad that we’re not getting all the flavors of Porsche’s electric sports wagon, it’s not like the GTS version is a consolation prize. With many Porsches, the mid-range GTS is often considered the best all-around version. And the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is no exception.
For one, it upgrades the 4S with the larger Performance Battery Plus as well as bigger front brakes. Also, it gets a trim-specific version of the Turbo’s torque-vectoring rear motor and active air suspension. In addition, it comes standard with Porsche’s Sport Chrono Package, which includes goodies like launch control and extra driving modes. The result is “an outstanding combination” of everyday civility, lighting-quick acceleration, and fantastic handling.
So, don’t be bummed because overseas electric Porsche buyers have more variety. We at least get the sweetest version of the otherwise forbidden fruit.
