The Jeep Compass Is Finally Gaining More Power
It looks like Stellantis is going all-in on the Jeep Compass. Recently the 2022 Jeep Compass received a swanky new interior, but it still has the aging powertrain. Now it’s finally gaining more power to match its upgraded looks.
The 2023 Jeep Compass gets new engine options
The 2022 Jeep Compass went from being a little bland to incredibly attractive with a new interior. The refresh may have been light, but it was much needed. It even gained the latest Unconnect infotainment system.
However, the current engine is still a little bland. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 177 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about eight seconds, which is lackluster but fine.
The nine-speed automatic transmission can be prone to sluggish responses, making the sporty-looking Jeep a little disappointing. Plus, it can only tow up to 2,000 lbs.
But on a positive note, the four-wheel drive models are well-equipped to tackle the wild. There are Sand, Snow, Mud, a low crawler gear ratio, and a Rock mode.
How much power will the 2023 Compass have?
The 2023 Jeep Compass is solving its sluggish issues by gaining new powertrain options. Jim Morrison, head of Jeep, shared that the old 2.4-liter engine will bite the dust soon. But he didn’t share many details about the upgraded units.
We can speculate that the Compass will get an engine from the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade’s 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine provides 177 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the Renegade can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.3 seconds.
This could be a little disappointing, as we want the Compass to get a little more pep. However, it would improve the fuel economy.
Currently, the Compass gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and up to 31 mpg on the highway. The Jeep Renegade gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and up to 32 mpg on the highway.
What about the Jeep Compass 4xe?
But Autoblog suggests that hybrid rumors are in the works. What if the Jeep Compass 4xe finally comes to America? It has a 1.3.-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor to provide 190 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque.
Higher trim levels offer 240 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque with a 30-mile electric range. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.1 seconds, providing some extra pep.
Also, we could see a brand new engine option. Jeep is working on a new family of hurricane engines. But the first options are being designed for larger Jeep SUVs, like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
The new turbocharged inline-six options are more fuel-efficient alternatives to V8 engines. They could replace the HEMI and were not sure if smaller alternatives will become available.
We should learn more about the new Jeep Compass powertrains soon. Notice how powertrains is plural, meaning more than one update is on the way. The new engines are expected to be available in 2023.
