Jeep Gladiator VS Ram Rebel: Which Ecodiesel Truck is Better?
The 2020 Ram Rebel Ecodiesel truck has been around a little longer than the Jeep Gladiator, but because both trucks have this engine option now, which one is better? If you want the Ecodiesel engine for daily driving, off-roading, and more, should you go with the Ram 1500 or Jeep Gladiator?
Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel VS the Ram Rebel
The Ecodiesel engine is a 3.6-liter V6 option that offers 260 horsepower in the Jeep Gladiator and Ram Rebel. However, it pumps out 442 lb-ft of torque in the Gladiator and 480 lb-ft of torque in the Ram 1500, making the Ram the stronger truck.
It costs about $4,995 to opt for this engine in the Ram Rebel and $4,000 in the Jeep Gladiator, saving you about $1k if you decide to go with the Jeep truck. The Ram Rebel starts around $45,400 and includes four-wheel drive, a 6’ 4” cargo box.

The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon starts $43k, saving you about $1k, again, however, it comes with less. The interior is smaller, it only has a five-foot box, and can only tow up to 7,000 lb. The Ram Rebel 1500 can tow up to 12,560 lb. So, the Ram Rebel Ecodiesel provides more value, with more truck for the money.
Jeep Gladiator pros
The Jeep Gladiator is built with more off-roading purposes. It has a solid front axle with locking differentials, Fox shocks, 33” tires, and the RocTrac low range 4:1 mode that’s available with its 4×4 system.
Rock rails protect the bottom of the Jeep Gladiator’s cab, skid plates protect the undercarriage, and the front sway bar has a remote disconnect. The Ram Rebel matches the Jeep Gladiator in size but lacks off-roading features and protection.
The Ram Rebel doesn’t have the same ground clearance and only has an electronically locking differential in the rear. It also has an independent suspension in the front with Bilstein monotube and lacks rocker protection.
Plus, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator can go topless and has removable doors for more fun in the sun. The Ram Rebel has a sliding rear window, so it doesn’t allow you to connect with nature as easily as the Gladiator does.
Ram Rebel pros
Because the Jeep Gladiator has a solid axle in the front, it’s prone to stiff steering at highway speeds. It also struggles against cross and headwinds. The Ram Rebel Provides better handling and more comfort as a daily driver.
Like other Jeep models, the Jeep Gladiator has a loud interior and a bumpy ride due to its off-roading equipment. The Ram 1500 offers a smoother ride, with a quiet cabin and a much more upscale cab.
The Ram Rebel Ecodiesel offers large leather seats with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment center for a more modern feel. The Jeep Gladiator feels a little older with large, chunky dials and technology that’s a little more difficult to use.
You can also choose between a coil or air suspension in the Ram Rebel. The air suspension provides a 4” lift and can drop to become more aerodynamic at high speeds.
If you want to go off-roading to the extreme, then pick the Jeep Gladiator. Otherwise, the Ram Rebel is more comfortable, has more tech, is more powerful, and can still provide an excellent off-roading experience.
