The Jeep Grand Cherokee Barely Beats the Toyota Highlander
The numbers are in and are providing great news for the Toyota Highlander and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both of these award-winning SUVs proved to be popular options for 2022 with tons of success. However, something stopped the 2022 Toyota Highlander from beating the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
2022 Toyota highlander vs. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The numbers are in, so models like the 2022 Toyota Highlander and 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee can take a moment to celebrate another year of success. They both landed in the top 20 best-selling vehicles for the year.
It was a rough one, though. According to Car Scoops, only the Tesla Model Y managed to increase sales compared to 2021. Everything else, like the Toyota RAV4, Ford F-150, and other popular models, experienced a decrease.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee managed to be the most popular Jeep SUV on the list. It moved 223,334 units in 2022. But sales declined by 12.2 percent compared to 2021.
Then the Toyota Highlander almost managed to create a tie by moving 222,805 models. It experienced a 15.7 percent drop in sales. So, what makes a few more families pick the Grand Cherokee over the Highlander?
Is the Grand Cherokee bigger than the Highlander?
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is slightly larger than the 2022 Toyota Highlander. The primary advantage comes down to passenger space, but you have to get the L for a third row. The Highlander has a tight third row that’s reserved for small children.
Average-sized adults may want a little more room to stretch out in the back of the Grand Cherokee but can fit as needed.
Also, the Grand Cherokee provides 37.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, with up to 70.8 cubes total.
With the Highlander, you get 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, with up to 84.3 cubes overall.
So, the Grand Cherokee provides more trunk and passenger space, but the Highlander can store more cargo and people. You can fold the seats flat in both SUVs.
If you need more room, the Jeep Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 lbs, and the Toyota Highlander can tow up to 5,000 lbs. This makes the Grand Cherokee more attractive if you have larger RVs or trailers to pull.
Is the Highlander or Grand Cherokee more comfortable?
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has higher ratings regarding comfort. It may have a smoother ride, a quieter interior, and less interior noise. The seats are massive, well-padded, and supportive in each row.
But the 2022 Toyota Highlander provides a smooth, quiet ride as well. It just might not be as sporty and doesn’t have an adaptive air suspension to dampen imperfections. Also, the rear seats are thin.
The Highlander does provide a bit more value with a generous list of standard features. The interior quality is average but durable. The Grand Cherokee can get expensive in a hurry with luxurious packages.
While the Highlander might be the more relaxing and practical choice, people are slightly leaning toward the Grand Cherokee. It has more passenger space, can tow more, and features above-average off-roading chops.
