It’s a battle between two massive SUVs. The 2022 Chevy Suburban is going head to head against the brand new (well, at least new in the last thirty or so years), Jeep Wagoneer. Whether the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer or 2022 Chevy Suburban is bigger depends on which way you measure them. The 2022 Chevy Suburban has a longer wheelbase, at 134.1 inches, while the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s wheelbase is 123 inches. 

The Suburban is also about ten inches longer. The Chevrolet Suburban is 225.7 inches while the Jeep Wagoneer measures 214.7 inches. However, the Wagoneer is slightly wider, at 83.6 inches to the Suburban’s 81.1 inches. Both SUVs are approximately the same height, so if you’re worried about hitting the roof of your garage, there’s very little difference.

What engines are in the Suburban and Wagoneer?

Both the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and 2022 Chevy Suburban have V8 engines. The 2022 Chevy Suburban has a 5.3-liter capable of 355-hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a ten-speed transmission. 

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer, on the other hand, has a 6.4-liter capable of 471-hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. That engine is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a payload capacity of 1,450.

Is the Chevy Suburban or Jeep Grand Wagoneer better for off-roading?

If you want to take your SUV off-roading, you’re going to need a vehicle that can handle it. Both SUVs are geared up with the necessary equipment, but which one is better?

The 2022 Chevy Suburban can be bought with an Off-Road Capability package, which comes with the Z71 package. This also comes with Magnetic Ride Control, Air Ride Adaptive suspension, and Electronic limited-slip differential. If you get the Off-Road package, you also have to get the Max Trailering Package and the Luxury Package. 

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will have 22×9 inch tires. Additionally, MotorTrend took the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer (not the Grand Wagoneer) off-road to try out its 4-wheel drive. The particular Wagoneer they tested had Quadra-Trac, which offers five surface settings: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud. Overall, they found the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer to be a decent off-roader. However, they did say that the larger 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was likely too “fancy” to be taken off-roading.

Overall, the 2022 Chevy Suburban is likely going to be the better off-roader, though people will certainly test these two models out off-road and we’ll get some more definitive answers. With the 2022 Chevy Suburban’s $52,400 price tag, it’s a better deal than the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer’s$87,845 price.
