The Jeep Grand Wagoneer Won’t Be a Gas Guzzler Anymore
We have great news for Jeep Grand Wagoneer fans that want to save gas. Soon, you’ll be able to drive this luxury SUV without burning through a ridiculous amount of fuel. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4xe and Wagoneer EV are on the way to get a handle on this beast’s thirst.
How many MPG does the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer get?
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer doesn’t have the best fuel economy. It gets an EPA-estimated 13 mpg in the city and up to 19 mpg on the highway. This is pretty low compared to the competition.
These figures are for the standard 6.4-liter V8 engine with 471 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. It can help the Grand Wagoneer accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds, which is exciting for a massive Jeep.
You can opt for the new 3.0-liter inline-six Hurricane engine for 15 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway. But adding all-wheel drive drops these figures to 14 mpg around town and 20 mpg on the highway.
The High Output Hurricane engine cranks out 510 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The Standard Output Hurricane engine provides 420 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque.
Is the Grand Wagoneer 4xe on the way?
While new engine options help save gas, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4xe is on the way to save even more fuel with hybrid power. According to MotorTrend, the 4xe will be here soon, possibly by 2024.
The Grand Wagoneer 4xe could be paired with the same inline-six Hurricane engine, a large battery pack, and electric motors. As a PHEV or plug-in hybrid, people can plug it in, but the regenerative brakes will also charge the batteries.
With the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, you get a 2.0-liter inline-four engine that’s paired with an electric motor that combines to generate 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It provides 25 miles of electric driving range on a single charge and 56 MPGe.
That’s a great start, but the Grand Wagoneer 4xe will need a little more juice to account for the extra weight. It could have a larger battery pack and more than one electric motor. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L 4xe may come out first and provide more clues about the Wagoneer 4xe.
When is the Wagoneer EV coming out?
Rumors suggest that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer EV could come out by 2025. That seems a little fast, but it could share components with the Ram 1500 EV. Both of these electric vehicles could ride on the STLA Frame EV architecture for large vehicles.
The 2024 Ram 1500 EV could have up to a 500-mile range and standard AWD, which would be great with the electric Grand Wagoneer. Reportedly, it’s expected to tow at least 11,000 pounds.
Official pricing and specs haven’t been released, but the Ram 1500 EV price could start at $45,000. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer starts at $87,995. An electrified model could increase its luxury price by a few thousand.
We have to wait a little bit to learn more, but at least the Grand Wagoneer is getting better on fuel. Even the new gas-powered engines help it a little. New updates for the lineup could come out in September.
