The new Jeep Grand Wagoneer is out, and it is a bit different from your normal Jeep. Not everyone in the market for a Jeep is going to want to shell out $80,000, but some might. For the features, towing, and off-road capabilities, the Grand Wagoneer might be the perfect SUV, though.

Will Jeep brand loyalty be enough?

The price for the new Grand Wagoneer starts at $86,995. A fully-loaded version is about $105,995. For reference, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade starts at $76,195. The Mercedes GLS is also in that range.

Are people actually willing to pay that much for a Jeep? There might be some loyal fans out there that will, but there are many cars and SUVs available for that type of money.

Jeep might be meant to go off-road, but how many people are going to take an almost $90,000 Jeep off-road? Is this Jeep trying to get into the luxury SUV game?

According to Edmunds, Jeep will offer multiple four-wheel-drive systems so that off-roading is still an option. The Grand Wagoneer has an adjustable-height air suspension that adds extra height if needed. That leaves a total of 10 inches of clearance for whatever you might be traversing off-road.

The available trim levels

The Grand Wagoneer is another new option in Jeep’s lineup that includes the Wagoneer and the Grand Cherokee L. This one has three rows and quite a bit of towing capacity. The Wagoneer has a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, and the Grand Wagoneer has a 6.4-liter V8.

The Grand Wagoneer will come in a few different trims. Series I is the one starting at $86k. Some features include a gloss black painted roof, a 12.3-inch cluster display, and a 12-inch touchscreen. It also includes heated and ventilated Nappa leather seats and a panoramic sunroof.

Series II starts at $93,995 and has an automated parking system, level 2 active driving assist, and available in Summer 2021.

The Grand Wagoneer Obsidian trim starts at $98,995 and has black onyx badges. The Grand Wagoneer Series III has night vision and pedestrian detection. All four of these trims are slated for the Summer of 2021.

It’s a Jeep thing

The Grand Wagoneer has a lot of room and a lot of potential, but I’m afraid it priced itself out of the hands of a lot of buyers. For the price, a lot of people might go for the Mercedes or Escalade.

One thing to note is that the Grand Wagoneer can tow up to 9,860 pounds, and the regular Wagoneer can tow 10,000 pounds. Those are crazy towing capacities right out of the gate.

But don’t abandon hope yet. This might be a higher price for Jeeps than we are used to, but it seems worth the price. The new safety features and upgrades add a lot to the Jeep we all know.

Is the Grand Wagoneer for everyone? Probably not. But is there a market for it? Definitely.
