When you think of American SUVs, what brand comes to mind first? A lot of people might say Jeep. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are some of the most popular vehicles in the lineup, both made in the USA. Only one other automaker made the list of most patriotic brands, but Jeep was named the most patriotic automaker for the 20th year in a row.

Brand Keys is an organization that predictive brand equity, consumer loyalty, and engagement metrics. Each year, Brand Keys surveys iconic American brands and perceptions of these brands within the country. Consumers noted a few companies as the most patriotic when questioned, like Jeep, Disney, Amazon, and Ford.

Brand Keys named Jeep as the most patriotic automaker when this particular survey started in 2002. Walmart, Coca-Cola, Levi Strauss, and Jeep were on the list. “Brands now battle in a marketplace impeded by the pandemic, political tribalism, and intensified social activism, all of which coalesced to change lives and notions of patriotism.”

60% of the brands listed 20 years ago are no longer there. These brands include Hershey’s, Kodak, Colgate, Zippo, and Marlboro. This year, Disney, Amazon, American Express, Apple, and Coors replaced the others. Brand Keys says this shift shows which brands are “True to what consumers expect when it comes to the value patriotism.” The people named Jeep the most patriotic automaker, with Ford trailing behind.

As the most patriotic automaker, most Jeep SUVs are built in the US

This survey used 5,804 consumers between the ages of 16 and 65. Brand Keys assessed 1,172 brands in various categories to see which ones resonated with the word “patriotism.” Ford is the only other automaker on the list for 2022. Last year, Tesla was on the list but didn’t make the top 40 for 2022.

One of the most popular vehicles in its lineup is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Jeep builds the Grand at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator are built at the headquarters in Toledo, Ohio. Jeep builds the regular Cherokee at Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois. 2022 saw a lot of change to where Jeep made these American SUVs, thanks to new factories and an expanded lineup.

Jeep has factories elsewhere, especially under other Stellantis brands. There are plants in Mexico and Canada, but Jeep builds the SUVs right here in America for the most part.

Ford also made the list of patriotic automakers

Ford was the only other automaker to join Jeep in the most patriotic brands. Ford builds many of its vehicles in Michigan at a variety of factories. The new Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck is made at the new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. It also builds the Ford Bronco and Ford Ranger at the Michigan Assembly Plant.

The people have spoken and Jeep is the most patriotic automaker again for 2022. If you are in the market for a new SUV, check out this list of the best American SUVs under $50,000.
