Jeep Scrambler And Honcho Editions Are Back-Sort Of

Nothing screams Jeep like those old Scrambler and/or Honcho editions of America’s favorite Jeep pickups. Remember the 2019 Jeep Easter Safari? That’s when we got to take a look at a retro Scrambler concept based on the new Gladiator. Well, nothing materialized from the hallowed halls of Jeep beyond that concept tease. But now Jeep …

But now Jeep Scrambler and Honcho editions are back. Sort of.

Leave it to the aftermarket to fill the vacuum left by a good idea laying in wait. Rider Graphix is now making a Scrambler graphics package for the Jeep Gladiator. While it was at it they cranked out a Honcho package too. And these packages won’t break the bank.

For a choice of primary colors, a Scrambler set of vinyl graphics is $329. Metallic offerings are a few bucks more. Other options include a hood graphic for standard, Rubicon, or Mojave Gladiator hoods. They will run you an extra $129. But there’s more.

Scrambler and Honcho hood badges proclaiming your special edition Jeep can also be purchased separately. This was done to appease Jeep’s strict copyright overlords. You can also have a custom hood badge sticker made with up to 10 characters and two dashes. That can be purchased for an additional $79. Rider Graphix suggests some opt for latitude and longitude coordinates for their custom hood badges.

CJ-8 Scrambler and Honcho special editions are highly collectible today

While not the most popular when new, the CJ-8 Scrambler and Honcho special editions are highly collectible today. Offered from 1981 to 1986 on CJ-8 Gladiators, the Scrambler edition is considered one of the hottest collector vehicles according to Hagerty Insurance. It ensures them, so Hagerty should know.

The Honcho was available on J-10 Jeep pickups from 1976 to 1983. The J-trucks featured large contrasting graphics flanking most of the sides of the pickup. It was sometimes included with a roll bar or Levi’s special interiors. The Honcho was limited to sportside and short bed pickups. Besides the Scrambler and Honcho, there were also “Golden Eagle” and “10-4” special editions.

Obviously, these packages were used to juice up sales, which only helped a bit. Because there were not that many sold they’re rare today, which increases their collectibility. But because they’re fun, colorful, and scream 1970s they can also be a fun, colorful, and nostalgic way to celebrate Jeep lore on new Gladiators.
