Jeep Is Slashing Thousands off the Price of Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs
2022 was the first year of Jeep’s Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs. But for 2023, this SUV is getting an all-new powerplant, an extended wheelbase option, and a major price cut. That’s right, most trim levels of the 2023 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer luxury SUVs will be thousands of dollars cheaper than the 2022 versions were.
How will the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer’s prices change for 2022?
Jeep is slashing $3k off the MSRP for upper trim levels of both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUV. It is keeping the MSRP of the entry-level Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer the same for the new model year.
The resurrected Wagoneer brand is a Jeep sub-brand. It is the badge Stellantis uses on its new Ram-truck-based full-size SUVs. It makes sense Stellantis is keeping the Wagoneer as a separate sub-brand. While Jeep is defined by capability, Wagoneer offers capable luxury. Wagoneer’s top trim SUVs are very expensive.
Jeep offers a competitively-prices entry-level Wagoneer SUV. The Wagoneer Series I starts at $58k. But the Grand Wagoneer model, with a larger engine and standard full-time 4WD competes against Cadillac and Lincoln in the luxury SUV market. The top trim Grand Wagoneer Series III made headlines with a price of over $100k.
See how the 2022 Wagoneer prices compare with the 2023 Wagoneer prices in the table below:
2022 MSRP | 2023 MSRP | |
Wagoneer Series I | $58,995 | $58,995 |
Wagoneer Series II | $69,640 | $65,725 |
Wagoneer Series III | $74,640 | $71,865 |
Grand Wagoneer Series I | $88,640 | $88,640 |
Grand Wagoneer Series II | $98,640 | $95,735 |
Grand Wagoneer Series III | $104,135 | $101,230 |
Why is Jeep cutting Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer prices?
The new 2023 Wagoneer models offering a major price cut all feature the Hurricane I6 engine, so perhaps it costs less to build than the outgoing V8. Jeep may also be counting on most buyers shelling out for the long wheelbase Wagoneer L (a $3k option). Or, the brand may just have decided the SUV was too expensive.
Stellantis has not shared why it is slashing Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer prices. Perhaps 2022 sales were so strong that the new model has paid off enough of its research and development. Or perhaps sales could have been stronger and Jeep is hoping a price cut bumps them higher.
Interestingly, the entry-level Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have the same MSRP in 2023 as they had in 2022. These are the only two 2023 models still equipped with a traditional V8. In the Wagoneer’s case its the 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The Grand Wagoneer gets the 6.4-liter V8. The price difference could simply come down to these powerplants.
Is the Wagoneer Series I still a luxury SUV?
The entry-level Wagoneer is the Series I. A regular wheelbase, 2WD Series I costs $58,995. This Wagoneer is still very much a luxury SUV: it features leather-trimmed seats, a 10-inch infotainment screen, 360-degree cameras, and a HEMI V8. In the Ram pickup truck, these are all top-trim features.
With upper trim Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer prices falling, perhaps more buyers will opt for the Series II and Series III. We’ll just have to wait to see how these loaded SUVs sell in 2023.
