Today the SUV battle is scaling up. We’re comparing two massive three-row beasts. It’s time to see if the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has what it takes to tackle the 2022 Ford Expedition. The Ford Expedition has been the best large SUV for years, but now the Jeep Wagoneer enters the arena as a newcomer.

When comparing SUVs, it’s always good to start with the price. You can get started in a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer for about $59,845. The 2022 Ford Expedition starts at around an estimated $51,000 to 53,000. That could be over an $6,000 difference.

The price of the Wagoneer is shocking, but it may include more value to cover the difference. Also, these prices are the MSRPs, so they don’t include the dealership markups or destination fees.

Both options will have you paying more at the pump. The Expedition gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. The Wagoneer receives an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the highway.

Does the Wagoneer perform better than the Expedition?

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer comes with a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque. The 48-volt hybrid system is there to help save fuel. This beast can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds.

With the 2022 Ford Expedition, you get a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. In higher trims, it pumps out up to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in about 6.2 seconds

Both SUVs offer a smooth ride and a peppy acceleration. However, the brakes on the Wagoneer could feel a bit more confident, and the Expedition could benefit from more responsive steering.

When properly equipped, the Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,758. The Jeep Wagoneer can tow up to 10,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,500 lbs.

Determining the better off-roader is difficult at the moment. Both SUVs haven’t been put through the paces yet. While the Ford Expedition Timberline trim is built for off-roading, the Wagoneer offers an adjustable air suspension that raises the ground clearance by 3.6 inches.

Does the Expedition have better features than the Wagoneer?

The 2022 Ford Expedition and 2022 Jeep Wagoneer both have captain’s chairs available for the second row. There are 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats of the Wagoneer, with up to 116.7 cubes total. With the Expedition, you can access up to 20.9 cubic feet of cargo space with up to 104.6 cubes total.

Both SUVs offer luxurious amenities such as leather seats, ambient lighting, and automatic climate control. You can opt for massaging seats with the Expedition.

The Wagoneer comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment display, and the Expedition has a standard 12.0-inch screen that can be upgraded to a 15.5-inch unit. The Wagoneer also offers Amazon Fire TV.

Both SUVs come with standard forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking. However, the Wagoneer offers standard lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

So, the Wagoneer is a little pricier, has more cargo space, and more towing power. The Expedition offers a more powerful engine with larger screens, but the Wagoneer may have more advanced tech. Plus, the Wagoneer has more standard safety features.
