There’s a new all-electric Jeep SUV on the horizon. It’s a sleek, electric, midsize SUV that’s coming by 2025. While Jeep has a lot of the basics covered for this new SUV, it’s missing one thing: a name. Now, Jeep’s CEO is promising a social media contest to find the best name for this new SUV.

In a new Jeep video, Ralph Gilles, Chief Design Officer at Stellantis, Jeeps’ parent company, said, “For now we’re calling it Wagoneer S. S for speed, striking and sexy,” he said. He said the new SUV will go from 0-to-60 in 3.5 seconds from its 600-horsepower electric motors. The goal is a 400-mile range.

But what about that naming contest?

The new SUV is codenamed “Wagoneer S,” and like other Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers it has the iconic seven-bar grille. But, it also has a wing, and an interesting rear end that looks more like a coupe than an SUV. It has the name “Wagoneer S” for now. But, according to Motor Trend, Jeep will host a social media contest to help name the new Jeep. Of course, there aren’t many details, but you can be sure we’ll watch Jeep’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, MySpace or whatever social media accounts we can dig up for details.

There will be new 4xe Wagoneers, too

Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe is proving that electric vehicles can go off-road. Now, the company will bring that same technology to a new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The company said the Grand Wagoneer 4xe will have an astonishing 500-mile range. It sounds fun, but not as much fun as converting a WWII-era jeep to EV power.

The “Wagoneer S” comes on the heels of the new Jeep Avenger SUV

The Avenger looks, in pictures, like a large five-seat SUV. But, in reality, it’s a small SUV designed for Europe, where the roads are much narrower. Jeep said the new Avenger is “right-sized for Europe,” which means that its smaller than many of the SUVs the brand sells in the U.S. at just 147 inches long. Though it looks large, it’s shorter than a Mini Cooper, which is 152 inches long. The Avenger fits into Europe’s growing compact B-SUV market for small SUVs.

Though we can’t buy one here, the Avenger is an SUV of note for us in that it previews Jeep’s new 400-volt electric powertrain. The new powertrain is a joint venture between Stellantis (Jeep’s parent company) and a European company. It makes just 156 horsepower, so don’t expect Tesla-rivaling acceleration, and it has a range of about 250 miles. Jeep says that European drivers average about 18 miles a day, so a 250-mile range should mean days of worry-free driving.
