The Jeep Wrangler 4xe Crushes the Ford Bronco Again
After a grueling eight-day race through the desert, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is still the reigning champion over the Ford Bronco. This year, the Rebelle Rally was more difficult than ever, but the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe didn’t break a sweat, while the 2022 Ford Bronco struggled.
2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vs. 2022 Ford Bronco
If you’re going off-roading, it’s hard to find a vehicle better than the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe or the 2022 Ford Bronco. These SUVs are some of the best-equipped options that arrive ready to go adventuring straight from the factory.
However, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe was the better vehicle during the 2022 Rebelle Rally. For those new to the competition, it’s an eight-day race through the desert and other challenging conditions.
No tech is allowed. You don’t have a GPS, navigation system, or your phone. The teams must check in at certain checkpoints that have time limits during the day—missing them results in penalties.
These ladies have mapping tools, and their rides to cover 1500 miles of various terrain. They camp at night and are off the grid until their phones are returned after the race. It’s not easy!
The Wrangler 4xe came in first place with the highest overall score, while the Bronco landed in sixth place, which is still an incredible achievement. But the Wrangler has defeated the new Bronco twice in a row!
Does the Wrangler 4xe or Bronco have more power?
The 2022 Jeep wrangler 4xe is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that’s paired with two electric motors and a 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It cranks out 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.0 seconds.
With the 2022 Ford Bronco, there are two engine options aside from the Raptor. The standard 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine provides 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6 engine for 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds.
The 4xe has more power for climbing over obstacles, but it could have a fuel advantage, too. While green checkpoints are necessary during the race, teams have the option of finding blue and black checkpoints for extra points.
However, you have to know your vehicle and how much fuel it has to avoid getting stranded and making a green checkpoint before time runs out.
The 4xe gets an EPA-estimated 22 miles of electric range on a single charge and about 49 MPGe. It can travel about 370 miles on a single tank, and the regenerative brakes recharge the battery.
The Ford Bronco gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway. It can travel about 416 miles between fill-ups.
