Motorcycles, made famous by celebrities from popular movies or television shows, seem to bring big money at auctions these days. One particular bike was placed on the auction block on June 25 but didn’t do so well. This time Johnny Depp’s name was attached to the motorcycle that appeared alongside him in the movie Cry-Baby. So, what exactly is it, and what happened?

Why is Johnny Depp’s Harley-Davidson so popular?

There are a few reasons why the Harley bike got a lot of attention lately. First, anything associated with Johnny Depp is well sought after, especially now that he won his defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Also, the bike is from Depp’s film Cry-Baby, the one that’s considered a cult classic from the 1990s. According to Auto Evolution, the cycle originally showcased an opening bid of $250,000. Any bids from prospective buyers would go up in $25,000 increments. 

Having been in possession of a museum in Branson, MO, where it’s been on display along with other iconic pieces, the bike was set to be sold at Kruse GWS auctions starting June 25th. However, no bid amounts were placed. According to GWS Auctions the current bid was closed out at $0.00, with increases now displayed as $5,000 versus the much higher $25,000 increments as seen before. The site also shows the bidding ended the morning of Sat, June 25, 2022.

What was the Harley-Davidson bike from Cry-Baby?

According to TMZ, This bike is a 1955 Harley-Davidson Model K, which was one of two bikes used in the film. One was a mock-up that the movie crew created for the crash and burn scene toward the film’s end. However, the one that was put up for auction was the “picture bike,” which they used for photographic purposes. 

Johnny Depp never actually sat on this motorcycle, and it isn’t from his personal collection. Maybe die-hard movie fans knew this, which is why it didn’t fare as well as anticipated at auction. But it’s still just as valuable as it would be if he had more of a connection to it.

After the film, the bike changed hands several times, being shown at various auto shows and museum collections. Now, it had its go on the auction block but seemed not to spark that much interest. 

What does Johnny Depp have in his car collection?

Depp, like many other celebrities, likes his cars. One of them is a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette he acquired after filming the movie, Rum’s Diary, which he drove around with Amber Heard. Once they completed the film, the production crew handed the car over to Depp. 

In the 2015 movie Mortdecai, Depp drove a 1960 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost vehicle. Apparently, it made him look so good in it that Ewan McGregor had to get one himself. 

His first car was a 1969 Chevrolet Nova, a muscle car that may have doubled as his living space while trying to get his career off the ground. It’s unclear if that’s true, and it is also unknown if he ever sold out. Regardless, he hasn’t been publicly seen in it in a very long time. 

He once owned a yacht he originally named the Vajoliroja. After he married Heard, the name changed again to Amphitrite. Eventually, he sold the yacht to a businessman, who sold it to J.K. Rowlings for $28.9 million.

Depp’s 1955 Harley-Davidson from Cry-Baby was sure to sell for quite a bit of money at the auction since anything connected to him seems like a commodity these days. No one really knows why it didn’t do too well or if it will be put back up for auction or back to the museum. Only time will tell.
