Love him or hate him, Elon Musk and his car company Tesla have changed the automotive industry. Tesla is at the forefront of the EV market, and the company’s success has earned Elon Musk a fervent fan base and recognition among tech pundits. Some of those pundits are not happy with United States Vice President Kamala Harris at the moment.

Did Kamala Harris snub Elon Musk and Tesla on Twitter?

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, have just signed a massive infrastructure spending bill into law. One of the significant pieces of legislation within the bill is increased EV tax credits for electric cars built in the United States by union labor.

The “Big Three” (Ford, GM, and Stellantis) stand to benefit the most from the legislation since all of them use United Auto Workers (UAW) union labor in their assembly plants.

VP Harris took to Twitter to assure that the law will result in more vehicles being built in the United States.

“With the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we’re going to build electric vehicles–and the batteries and parts that go into them–in the United States, instead of relying on other countries,” said VP Harris. “The future will be made in America.”

It is an optimistic sentiment, but some notable tech personalities found her statement lacking.

Tech YouTubers call out Kamala Harris for ignoring Tesla

After Kamala Harris’ tweet, many people immediately responded to point out that Harris failed to mention Telsa.

Notably, Zack Nelson, behind the “JerryRigEverything” YouTube channel, responded to Vice President Harris. “…Tesla has been in the USA since 2003. It is the largest electric car manufacture in the world,” tweeted Nelson. “It’s also not hard to pronounce. Ya’ll should try it sometime.”

Nelson’s YouTube channel has over 7 million subscribers and gained popularity due to his videos in which he subjects the latest smartphones and other consumer tech to torture tests. He is also in the process of converting a military-used Hummer H1 into an EV that will use Tesla battery modules.

Tech reviewer and YouTuber Sara Dietschy responded with a similar sentiment. “The way this admin has just ignored Tesla is insane,” said Dietschy.

Tesla does not have the best relationship with government agencies

While Tesla and Elon Musk fans may not be happy with what VP Kamala Harris tweeted, they can’t ignore the fact that Tesla is not exactly in the government’s good graces.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has gone back and forth with Tesla over several issues in recent months.

The safety organization threatened to fine Telsa over $100 million because the automaker did not file a recall after updating its Full Self Driving Beta software in October.

Beyond that, the NHTSA is investigating several crashes–some fatal–involving Teslas that may have been in Autopilot mode.

Recently, a Tesla owner filed a complaint with the NHTSA after his Tesla drove itself into the wrong lane while using the Full Self Driving Beta software.

Considering how often government agencies have called the safety of Tesla vehicles into question, it is not very surprising that VP Harris and the Biden administration are not thrilled to give Tesla any public recognition.
