Looking to buy a new Subaru? The 2022 Subaru Impreza and the 2022 Subaru Legacy both have a lot to offer buyers. These sedans might look similar but have distinct advantages depending on your personal needs, Kelley Blue Book noted. Take a look at how the two compare.

Kelley Blue Book broke down the details on the 2022 Subaru Impreza and the 2022 Subaru Legacy. The Impreza has a starting price of $18,795, and buyers get a lot with that price. It comes with all-wheel drive standard and has strong resale value. Buyers also have the option of picking a sedan or hatchback body style.

Unfortunately, the Subaru Impreza lacks in a few areas. It doesn’t offer much power or a hybrid option. It also doesn’t include many standard driver’s aids with the manual transmission, which seems like an oversight. The 2022 Impreza hasn’t been revamped since 2017, and it sort of shows in the styling.

As far as the 2022 Subaru Legacy goes, the starting price is a bit higher at $23,955. It also has all-wheel drive standard and has excellent safety scores. The Legacy also offers a turbo option on the higher trim levels. It offers more standard equipment on the base trim levels, which is a plus.

The Legacy only comes with the CVT transmission option, and the styling isn’t very fresh. However, it is a reliable sedan.

The case for the 2022 Subaru Impreza sedan

The 2022 Subaru Impreza could use an update soon as far as the new model goes. It is one of the few cars that offers all-wheel drive as a standard option, which is a big plus. However, the engine only gets about 152 hp total. This, combined with the heavy continuously variable transmission (CVT) transmission, makes the 2022 Subaru Impreza a bit slow.

The sedan gets 5.1 inches of ground clearance, which isn’t enough to take it off-road for the most part. But the interior is comfortable and well-done. There is plenty of room inside, especially with the hatchback version. This option has 21 cubic feet of cargo space, and the fold-down seats add even more space. The sedan has 12.3 cubic feet and fold-down seats, too. Kelley Blue Book prefers the top trim, the Limited, which only comes as a hatchback.

The 2022 Subaru Legacy also has a lot to offer buyers

The Subaru Legacy is a fairly popular model from the Subaru lineup. As previously mentioned, all-wheel drive is standard, and it comes with many active safety features. The XT trim offers a turbocharged engine which Kelley Blue Book prefers. Plus, Nappa leather upholstery is an option. KBB says the 2022 Subaru Legacy is a “safe choice for families and college students, though its styling is rather understated.”

This version of the Legacy hit the market in 2020, so it is pretty recent. Subaru EyeSight suite of safety features offers forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. One of the biggest issues noted is the CVT transmission. It works fine but isn’t the most exciting. That’s not much of a negative.

Which Subaru is right for your family?

The 2022 Subaru Legacy has a quiet, comfortable cabin with room for five. The engine has more horsepower, and the turbocharged engine is a plus. The 2022 Subaru Impreza has sedan and hatchback body style options, which is a plus. It also has a manual transmission for those who might want it. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave both the Legacy and the Impreza a five-star safety rating, which is a major plus for both sides.
