Last year, Audi announced that it was teaming up with rally driving extraordinaire and Hoonigan co-founder Ken Block. Block announced that he would be behind the wheel of an electric Audi vehicle in an electric installment of his legendary Gymkhana video series. Now, it seems we may be getting a slight glance into what’s to come.

Ken Block takes his iconic all-wheel drive drifting skills to the E-Tron GT

In a video Ken Block recently posted to his personal Youtube channel, he takes his Audi RS E-Tron GT out for some slides. Though his E-Tron GT is stock underneath, it’s got some pretty awesome customization. A custom-wrapped Audi roof box and a set of Rotiform wheels really make this car especially picturesque. That works out great, considering he uses it for some pretty picturesque activities.

Block states at the beginning of the video that he isn’t entirely sure how the car is going to react to being drifted. The case for it being a successful venture gets a little more doubtful, too, as his co-host from Audi describes the car as potentially “too smart to hoon.”

So, Ken Block set out with three goals in mind. One, attempt to do donuts. Two, attempt to do figure eights. Three, attempt some fast-paced big slides. They set up some tire stacks to use as obstacles and put Block in the drivers’ seat.

As usual with Ken Block, he makes it look easy. As if Audi made it to do solely this, the RS E-Tron GT dances around the stacks of tires in both donuts and figure-eights without issue. Block’s only complaint about the whole situation is that it doesn’t have a handbrake. However, the instant-on power of an electric vehicle seemed to help make any necessary corrections mid-slide.

Block even took a fan from the charity foundation Dream On 3 out for a ride during his quest for “big slides.” Despite reservations about blowing tires and ruining body panels, Block once again made it look effortless.

Can an electric car drift?

It seems that without a doubt, even when all-wheel drive, an electric car can drift with ease.

Many modern EVs like Tesla have safety features that don’t allow you to get this wild with the car. However, there are ways to get around them.

In the case of the Audi RS E-Tron GT, though, it seems that the legendary German brand upkeeps the spirit of the RS badging and allows the driver full control over the vehicle. Of course, its dual-motor assembly with power output of up to 637 horsepower doesn’t hurt the process!

Block’s video description says that this is number three out of six videos dedicated solely to the Audi RS E-Tron GT. The car is now his daily driver, and he is documenting the build in a mini-series. It looks pretty awesome, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

Furthermore, we can’t wait to see the electrified Gymkhana release. It’s going to be great!
