Not long ago, Ken Block announced that he signed a partnership with Audi to be his official vehicle partner in a multi-year agreement and work on an Audi EV. At the time, there were not many details revealed about the partnership other than Ken Block working with Audi on electric vehicle development.

Considering Ken Block’s history as a rally driver and gymkhana specialist, it was not unreasonable to think that Block’s partnership with Audi would have roots in motorsport. Though, that was not confirmed in the initial announcement. Recently, Ken Block took to Twitter to reveal more details about the nature of the partnership.

Ken Block’s “Electrikhana” video will feature an Audi EV

Ken Block officially confirmed that his next gymkhana-style video called “Electrikhana,” will feature an Audi EV that is currently in development. We have no idea what this Audi EV will look like, but Block did say that the vehicle will share the same powertrain as the 2022 Audi e-tron SUV. For reference, the Audi e-tron features a 95 kWh battery, twin electric engines that combine for up to 402 horsepower, and of course, Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive.

Considering the kind of demand that Ken Block will put on his Electrikhana car, we speculate that Audi’s engineers will enhance performance significantly over what is currently offered in the Audi e-tron SUV. While 402 horsepower is nothing to scoff at, it just does not seem like enough to deliver the performance that Block would need to pull off some of the outrageous stunts seen in his Gymkhana videos.

We’re not all engineers here at MotorBiscuit, so we are unsure how the Audi team will enhance the e-tron platform to make it gymkhana-worthy. If we had to guess, we would say that Audi might add two more electric motors so that there is one for each wheel. That would undoubtedly increase horsepower and grip but would also add weight and decrease battery life.

The weight problem could easily be solved by building a very light carbon fiber chassis. The battery life issue may not actually be an issue at all. Despite all of Ken Block’s videos looking like one continuous sequence, the truth is they are filmed in pieces, with each segment sometimes being filmed on an entirely different day. So, the “Electrikhana” car would only need to have enough juice to film whatever sequence or sequences are being shot on the day.

To keep things moving, Audi may build more than one Electrikhana vehicle so that a fully-charged car is always on deck and ready to go.

Ken Block gets the best history lesson ever

One of Audi’s conditions for their partnership with Ken Block was that Block had to kick things off in Ingolstadt, Germany, the home of Audi’s headquarters. Ken also had to drive a list of Audi cars equivalent to a tasting menu at the finest restaurant in the world. We’re sure it took a lot of convincing to get Ken to say yes to that. Before Ken got behind the wheel, he took a tour of Audi’s museum and design studio, where he got lessons in Audi’s origins and a glimpse at where the brand is going next. The tour was capped off with Ken driving the 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT and the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro for a spin around Audi’s private track.

There will be more videos to come from Ken Block and Audi. Hopefully, they will start to pull back the curtain on the development of the “Electrikhana” Audi EV.
