Kia Dealerships Could Mean the Death of the EV6
Want to buy the 2022 Kia EV6? The process may not be as easy as going to the dealership to pick one up. Currently, dealerships are giving this new EV crossover massive markups. And that is if they are selling the EV6 at all. In fact, some consumers feel that dealerships do not even want to sell this electric model. Which could prove difficult for Kia’s foray into the EV market. It may be a seller’s market right now, but buyers are getting frustrated with what it takes to buy the 2022 Kia EV6.
For some, buying the 2022 Kia EV6 feels impossible
From dealer markups to lack of inventory, getting behind the wheel of a Kia EV6 may not be easy. According to Jalopnik, these difficulties are mostly occurring in California. But buyers across the country are having problems finding and buying the EV6 at sticker price. Which takes away from some of the value that this EV crossover has to offer.
The starting price of the Kia EV6 is $40,900 for the base model. With an available Federal Tax Credit, Kia reports that the EV6 can be had for as little as $33,400. That is not what shoppers are finding at Kia dealerships though. Stores have the ability to add significant markups to this EV, with some saying they have seen up to $20,000 in additional costs.
How expensive is the 2022 Kia EV6?
There are multiple trim levels and configurations for the EV6, but its base MSRP is $40,900. As an electric crossover, this model does benefit from some tax incentives that can help to lower its price. So while this certainly is not a cheap vehicle, some of the features and practicality help to justify its pricing.
The main problem with the EV6 stems from dealerships. Across the country, dealerships are adding fees to this model in order to increase their profit margins. It’s gotten so bad, that on EV forums, buyers discuss trying to go out of state in order to buy this EV crossover.
With inventory shortages due to supply chain issues, it’s not surprising that dealerships have the upper hand. But in 2022, consumers expect a no-nonsense shopping experience. And when it comes to trying to buy the Kia EV6, that is not something that they are finding.
Is the Kia EV6 a good EV?
On paper, the new EV6 appears to be a fairly competent vehicle. It has up to 310 miles in estimated range and offers available all-wheel drive. Where the Kia EV6 truly falls short, is being able to buy one at a dealership.
If you can manage to find an EV6 for sale, you will likely have to deal with potential markups or other hoops to jump through. And that may encourage you to look to other manufacturers for an all-electric vehicle. We just hope the current issues with buying an EV6 are not here to stay. If they do, it could spell out an early demise of this exciting EV crossover.
