The Ford Mustang Mach-E, like its namesake, is proving to be popular among EV buyers. Kia just announced the 2022 Kia EV6 crossover’s EPA estimated all-electric driving range, but how does it compare to the Mustang Mach-E?

2022 Kia EV6: EPA estimated all-electric driving range

According to a press release from Kia Motors, the EPA estimated range for the EV6 is 310 miles. That is the highest all-electric driving range the crossover can achieve. It’s only possible when the EV6 is equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive. This particular drivetrain setup comes on the top trims; therefore, bottom trims will get a lower range.

For the more affordable EV6 trim levels, the range will drop to 274 and 232 miles. The first number is when the EV6 uses all-wheel drive and the same 77.4 kWh battery. The other is for the 2022 Kia EV6 models with rear-wheel drive and the smaller 58.0 kWh battery.

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E: EPA estimated all-electric driving range

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with either a 70.0 kWh battery or the extended range 91.0 kWh battery. The latter of the two always comes with AWD on the top trims. The standard battery manages the Mustang Mach-E to 224 miles of all-electric driving range. Subsequently, the extended range battery allows the electric pony to travel 314 miles on a single charge.

In conclusion, the Kia EV6 falls just a bit short of the Mustang Mach-E. In terms of the EPA-estimated all-electric driving range, the Mustang Mach-E maintains a small lead. The Kia EV6 has an excellent driving range overall, and it’s barely less than the Ford crossover. Don’t let that deter you from Kia’s offering because honestly, it won’t be very noticeable to have just 4 miles fewer on a single charge.

Kia EV6 vs. Mustang Mach-E: Do the electric crossovers have fast charging?

Kia Motors explicitly says that the EV6 can be charged quickly. However, the automaker failed to reveal a fast-charging station, plug, or device of any kind. How the EV6 can be rapidly charged is unknown, as is the amount of time it takes to charge the crossover to a driveable level if owners are on a long road trip.

Every Ford Mustang Mach-E has a fast-charging capability. Each unit comes with a Ford mobile charger that can add 30 miles of range per night with a 240-volt outlet. Additionally, owners can purchase a Ford charge station that can be installed in their home by certified Ford electricians. The charge station ups the miles per night to 32, which isn’t too significant of a difference. According to Ford, at a DC fast-charging station, the Mach-E can gain an estimated 59 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

In conclusion, the Ford Mustang Mach-E just barely wins the driving range battle against the Kia EV6. The 2022 Kia EV6 has an all-electric driving range good enough to compete with the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Although we don’t know the details of Kia’s fast-charging capability, the Mach-E’s 59 miles in 10 minutes is impressive. If you need a long-range electric crossover and don’t want to break the bank on a Tesla Model Y, the 2022 Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E are both excellent options.
