The Kia EV6 GT sprints with the hottest performance EV SUVs. However, even with blistering acceleration times, the range-topping EV6 won’t quite outperform some of its rivals, like the Tesla Model 3 Performance. Most notably, despite a shared platform, the Kia EV6 GT won’t outrun its closest sibling, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. 

Despite its thrust-happy launches, the 2024 Kia EV6 GT won’t outrun the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N or Tesla Model 3 Performance

The Kia EV6 GT is fast. Not fast for an EV. Not fast for an SUV. Fast, full stop. In testing, the ballistic Kia model hit 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. That’s faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance. However, the EV6 GT isn’t alone in the realm of accessible EVs with lightning-fast launches.

Enter the redesigned Tesla Model 3 Performance. Tesla claims the latest 500+ horsepower Model 3 Performance will dash to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. It’s the first time a factory Model 3 trim breaks the 3.0-second mark. It’s also quick enough to put the all-wheel drive (AWD), post-facelift Model 3 ahead of Kia’s high-powered EV SUV.

Moreover, the EV6 GT shares a platform with the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. However, that doesn’t mean the sibling Hyundai moves the same as the EV6 GT. In fact, the new IONIQ 5 N will hit 60 mph in 3.0 seconds flat, just 0.1 seconds behind the smaller, less spacious Tesla Model 3 Performance. 

However, the Kia EV6 GT will still outsprint some of its closest EV SUV competitors. For instance, the controversial Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance will manage a sprint to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. While impressive for a near-5,000 lb SUV, it’s half a second behind the performance-oriented Kia.
