Kia recently announced the addition to the electric vehicle lineup, the new Kia EV6. Currently, the EV6 is being released to the European market, but it is rumored to be coming to the U.S. later this year. The EV6 offers many features, including an impressive range and a variety of specs to suit your needs.

The Kia EV6 is forging ahead in the electric vehicle game. It is built on the new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and really is ahead of its time. It can travel over 315 miles and can charge about 60 miles in 4.5 minutes.

In addition to that, the 0-60 time is 3.5 seconds. The E-GMP platform means this compact SUV has a roomy interior that feels more like a mid-to-large SUV.

The interior has a 12.3-inch curved display with infotainment features. The EV6 has also jumped into the Augmented Reality Head-Up Display. This will display your speed, directions, and other helpful bits of information.

The EV6 is equipped with an 800 volt, high-speed, multi-charging system. As mentioned before, 4.5 minutes of charging will get you 60 miles of travel time. That means it takes 20 minutes to get 80% charged and on your way.

The 315-mile driving range is a big deal. The EV6 has a 77.4kWh batter that requires less charge to get further. Kia is also offering a lower-performance 58kWh battery, in case you need less.

Since the EV6 hasn’t been tested in real-life yet, that number might change. The EPA estimate has not been confirmed yet.

In addition, Kia will offer a rear-wheel-drive base with a single motor or an all-wheel-drive platform with dual motors. Kia says the EV6 will get 577 hp and 161 miles per hour for the top speed with the two-motor option.

The new SUV also offers power on the go. Kia notes this can supply 3.6kW of electricity, similar to a portable generator for outdoor activities. In a pinch, this can serve as an emergency power source for your home.

The EV6 is equipped to tow up to 1,600 kg, which is over 3,500 pounds. That might depend on which battery and drivetrain you select, but that is still a lot of towing power.

What other electric vehicles does Kia offer?

Currently, Kia offers four hybrid options on the U.S. market. The Niro, Kia Niro EV, the Niro Plug-In Hybrid, and the Sorento Hybrid.

The Kia Niro is a hybrid crossover that gets an estimated 50 miles combined. The Niro EV gets a 239-mile range on a full charge and can get an 80% charge in a little over an hour. The Niro EV is eligible for some federal and state tax rebates.

With the addition of the EV6 to the U.S. market, Kia might actually be able to pull some electric vehicle drivers. While the Niro is a fun car, it doesn’t offer much over other electric vehicles. Will the EV6 be a hit for Kia?
