The 2024 Kia EV9 is coming. The EV9 is arguably the most complex nameplate that the South Korean automaker is producing because it’s the first of its kind. It’s a midsize fully-electric SUV that has Telluride DNA baked into its design language. The electric vehicle also incorporates some of the best characteristics of the popular Kia EV6. Kia has officially introduced the EV9 to the world, and it is glorious.

The Kia EV9 has just been officially introduced. It is by far one of the most exciting electric vehicle releases of the year because of how uncommon fully-electric midsize SUVs are in the industry. The EV9 is a milestone for the entire EV space and a huge achievement for Kia. Hyundai Motor Company aims to dominate as much electric vehicle market share as possible, and its midsize electric SUV plays an integral role in the brand’s future.
The 2024 Kia EV9 may not look exactly like the concept version, but its design still pushes the envelope in all the right ways. The brand that gave us the funky Kia Soul has done it again by creating an EV nameplate too distinct to mistake for any other vehicle on the market.
In the video above, Kia sets the tone for its futuristic midsize SUV with ethereal music. The EV9’s unique taillights light up the darkness. The camera shows the EVs exterior and then shifts focus to a mountainous region. Suddenly Kia takes the viewer inside the EVs cabin, which is simplistic and modern. The camera then focuses on the rear of the SUV as it rises on a moving platform, emerging from what appears to be an advanced facility in a remote location.
There’s a clear juxtaposition between the facility and its surroundings. Perhaps Kia wants the viewer to note the juxtaposition between the EV9 and everything else on the market. Kia calls its design philosophy “Opposites United.” Perhaps, the brand is attempting to bridge the gap between the value and practicality of its older SUV nameplates and the innovation of its newer models. The EV9 is a culmination of things, but above all, it’s unique.
Why is the Kia EV9 important?
The Kia EV9 is an important nameplate for Kia because it expands its portfolio of electric vehicles. Kia, like most other major automakers, has huge plans for electrification in the future. For electrification to be lucrative, the brand has to produce several popular EV nameplates.
The Kia EV6 is gaining popularity. The small electric SUV is a World Performance Car of the Year finalist (for the GT trim). Now, Kia needs to make headway in the midsize electric SUV vehicle segment to build a strong foundation for the future of its lineup.
Should you get a 2024 Kia EV9?
It’s much too early to recommend the 2024 Kia EV9 without the brand releasing detailed specs. Ideally, the midsize electric SUV should have a max driving range of at least 310 miles and decent power.
Since it’s related to the Telluride, drivers will also expect it to be value-oriented and comfortable. There are high expectations for Kia’s first midsize electric SUV. Will it meet those expectations or disappoint thousands of fans? According to Car and Driver, the EV9 is expected to hit dealerships in late 2023 or early 2024.
