Despite praise from critics and journalists, the 2022 Kia EV6 has been off to a slow start. And that is not necessarily this electric SUV’s fault. Supply constraints mean that finding an EV6 for sale is not the easiest task. Still, Kia did manage to sell over 2,000 EV6 units during the month of May, which means that over 10,000 models have been sold in total. That is good news for Kia, as the manufacturer has had decreasing sales recently. 

Over 10,000 2022 Kia EV6 models have been sold

The EV6 was introduced last year, and it marked Kia’s entrance into the EV market. As an electric SUV, you can enjoy legitimate performance, practicality, and the benefits of not needing to fill up at the pump. Additionally, the Kia EV6 is available in multiple trim levels including the upcoming GT model. 

According to Inside EVs, Kia sold 2,088 EV6 models during the month of May. But overall, car sales dropped nearly 28% year-over-year to 57,941. This means that the 2022 EV6 makes up 3.6% of Kia’s current sales numbers. If sales remain constant, Kia should be able to sell about 30,000 EV6 units per year, which is decent enough. And it is comparable to the EV6’s corporate cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. 

Is the 2022 Kia EV6 electric?

The EV6 is a new electric SUV from the Kia brand. It offers up to 310 miles of estimated range and it can charge up to 217 miles in under 20 minutes. And that is a reflection of how far modern EVs have come since they were first introduced. Better yet, Kia states this vehicle has a faster 0 to 60 mph time than the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, and that may mean that the EV6 could be an enthusiast car. 

Additionally, the Kia EV6 can generate up to 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. But, that number will change once the GT model arrives which should have a power output of around 570 hp. And, for those in winter climates, there is available all-wheel drive. With this feature, buyers will also get a heat pump to help keep range when the temperature drops. 

How much does the 2022 EV6 cost?

Unfortunately, the 2022 Kia EV6 is not that cheap, it has a starting cost of $40,900. That said, you may be able to benefit from a federal tax credit and you might also see some maintenance savings. Plus, with the cost of gas today, an EV is likely to be appreciated since you will not have to fill up at the pump. 

The EV6 is available in a variety of trim levels, and each trim has its own unique cost. Undoubtedly the most expensive EV6 model will be the performance-focused GT. This model has not yet been released, but it is on its way.
