The Kia Telluride Still Has a Long Way to Go to Catch the Ford Explorer
The famous Kia Telluride, is a fantastic midsize family SUV built for comfort and long-distance traveling. The Kia Telluride has several fantastic features, including excellent build quality, a spacious interior, and a low price in comparison to other SUV models. However, despite the Kia Telluride’s superior reviews, the Ford Explorer still outsells it. Let’s find out why.
Kia Telluride has fewer sales than the Ford Explorer
Even though the Kia Telluride has received praise from respected critics like Consumer Reports, MotorTrend, and U.S. News, the Ford Explorer still outperforms it in terms of sales.
The Telluride sold around 93,705 units in 2022, which is almost three times fewer than the amount of Ford Explorers sold, according to CarFigures. Ford sold about 219,871 Explorers so far in 2022.
Given that the Ford Explorer was introduced to the automotive market decades before the first Kia Telluride, this discrepancy in lifetime sales makes sense. There’s still a long way to go before catching up to Ford Explorer sales.
These SUVs are heading in the opposite direction
The Telluride is steadily selling more cars as a result of its recent rise in popularity. According to data from GoodCarBadCar, Ford Explorer sales have decreased by 10.01% on a year-over-year basis. On the other hand, sales of the Telluride have grown by 10.18%.
According to theKEEA, the Telluride has sold an average of 5,000 vehicles each month since it first went on sale in the United States in 2019. Similarly, sales of the Explorer fell by around 2% to 156,243 units in the first nine months of the year 2022, as outlined by Ford Authority.
Although the Ford Explorer still outsells the Telluride in terms of sales, the Telluride is on a positive rising trend, suggesting that it may eventually overtake the Explorer.
The Kia Telluride will be even better in 2023
The 2023 Kia Telluride has a more modern and elegant appearance than the previous models. The 2023 model features new and improved technologies, seating for 7-8 passengers, and generous cargo capacity.
The new Telluride has front and rear sunroofs, second-row captain’s seats, and high-end 20-inch black rims. This model also includes a Harman/Kardon audio system for high-quality music. The new Telluride will cost around $37,000, with all-wheel drive will add $2,000 to the price.
