Kia Telluride Tops Study of Fastest-Selling New and Used Cars
To say that the global pandemic has thrown the automotive world into a tough spot would be a massive understatement. With new vehicles becoming harder to come by and used models selling for ridiculous prices, it’s a tough time to be a consumer. However, a new study sheds light on the fastest-selling new and used cars for March 2021.
The iSeeCars performed the study, finding a couple of repeat winners in both markets. The one that stands out is the Kia Telluride, mainly because consumers seem quite eager to get their hands on this mid-sized SUV. Sports cars and hybrids also remain in high demand.
What are the fastest-selling used cars?
Since the used vehicle market has seen the largest price boom recently, let’s start there. According to iSeeCars, the fastest-selling used car is the Kia Telluride. On average, consumers pay $39,676 for these SUVs. For context, the Telluride has a base price of $32,190. However, these are likely higher-trimmed models. In total, it takes around 25.9 days for this mid-size SUV to find a new home.
Next up, we’ve got the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Since this tiny roadster generally doesn’t sell in massive numbers, it’s quite surprising to see it land at the top of this iSeeCars study. Regardless, buyers paid around $22,105 for this iconic sports car. In total, it takes about 26.5 days for a Miata to find a new home.
Rounding up the top fastest-selling used cars for March 2021 is the Hyundai Palisade. Part of what makes this placing interesting is that the Palisade is mechanically identical to the Telluride. Oddly enough, buyers are paying even more for the Hyundai at $39,887. In total, it takes about 28.5 days on average to sell this mid-sized SUV.
What are the fastest-selling new cars?
If we look at the fastest-selling new cars, the Kia Telluride still manages to find its way to the top three. According to iSeeCars, the Kia Telluride was the third fastest-selling new car of March 2021, with an average price of $44,103. Unlike the used example, it takes just 14.1 days to sell a brand-new one.
In the number two spot, we’ve got the electrified Toyota RAV4 Prime. This crossover takes just 10.2 days to find a home at an average price of $44,201. Part of what makes this finding interesting is how much quicker the Prime model sells over the standard and Hybrid models.
The fastest-selling new car of March 2021 won’t come as a surprise if you’ve been keeping up with the sports car world because it’s the Chevrolet Corvette. For the most part, these supercars aren’t sitting around at lots. They’re going to owners with pre-purchased orders. iSeeCars found that it takes just 9.4 days on average for the Corvette to find a home. The average price for this American sports car is $82,457.
Is now a good time to buy a car?
The main takeaway from this study of fastest-selling new and used cars is that now might not be the best time to pull the trigger on a new or used vehicle. In fact, looking at the used car prices reveals that they are not far off from the new price in most cases. In fact, some of these used examples are selling dangerously close to their original cost. As a result, if you can hold off, you might save thousands.
