The Kyle Busch Podcast? Dale Earnhardt Jr. Admits He’s Talked With the Driver About It
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has hosted a podcast for years. Denny Hamlin recently completed his first podcast season under Earnhardt’s Dirty Mo Media brand. Could Kyle Busch be the next NASCAR driver up? Junior admitted he’s had conversations with the two-time Cup Series champion about the subject.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. welcomes Denny Hamlin to podcast family
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has talked NASCAR and racing-related topics on his popular weekly Dale Jr. Download for a decade. That includes breaking down the previous weekend’s racing action and interviewing various guests.
The NASCAR Hall of Famer welcomed Denny Hamlin as a guest on an episode in 2022. The driver proved quite adept at answering questions and producing an interesting conversation.
After discussions with podcast co-host and Dirty Mo top man Mike Davis, the pair approached the Joe Gibbs Racing driver about hosting his own podcast. He agreed.
That move turned out to be a resounding success, with Hamlin providing a unique spin following each race weekend and offering particulars of his day. Sometimes, that included providing too much detail, as he did following the first race at Phoenix and his late-race incident with Ross Chastain, which earned him a $50,000 fine and a penalty of 25 driver points.
Earnhardt admits there’s been talks with Kyle Busch about a podcast
Earnhardt recently appeared as a guest of Kenny Wallace on his YouTube channel and the “Kenny Conversation.” The pair addressed various topics, including the 2023 season, NASCAR’s increased penalties, and how Hamlin’s Actions Detrimental podcast came to be.
“That’s another Mike Davis idea,” Earnhardt admitted. “Mike’s the leader of the whole thing. I come to Mike a couple of years ago, and there was a player for the Carolina Panthers that we had worked with, and I was like, ‘Mike, this guy is pretty sharp. We ought to do a podcast, and he could be the host. We’ll have a football podcast. Dirty Mo Media can be more than just racing.’
“That conversation has sparked this sort of intention going forward to like grow beyond just my show and Door Bumper Clear. It’s been difficult for us to get outside of our NASCAR world, but Mike wants to have an SEC, college sort of podcast. He’s a massive Alabama fan. We would probably learn a ton doing something outside of our familiar space of racing.
“We’ve had big conversations with Kyle Busch and other drivers about doing a podcast with us here at Dirty Mo Media. I talked to [Ryan] Blaney a couple of years ago about his podcast and, if he’s going to continue to do it, if he would ever move it to Dirty Mo Media. So we’ve had this interest in having more drivers doing shows in our building.”
Blaney’s Glass Case of Emotion, which recently recorded its final episode, had a specific style, and it wasn’t always about racing.
Can you imagine Kyle Busch hosting his own podcast and calling out NASCAR officials when he believes they got something wrong, as he’s been wont to do in the past? Or taking a shot at another driver for something that happened in the race?
Hamlin’s podcast has been good. Rowdy’s would be even better.
